Does anyone know of some kind of insert that I can use to protect the back of my storage area with the back seat laying down. We are going to do an overland trip and want to load up the back without damaging the interior. Maybe something like a dog may or something.

Measure the length and width you want. Go to Home Depot and check out their rolls of heavy duty carpeting in black. Have them cut it to size. That’s what I used to cover my sleeping platform.

Canvas back is nice if you have money to burn, otherwise there are plenty of generic ones on Amazon. I have one that attaches to my front seat headrest, and extends all the way to the end of the cargo floor. Works great when my dogs are in the car.

The idea about the carpet is a good one as well. Or even a rubber cargo mat designed for a pickup bed would work too. I've actually been meaning to pick one up for mine, the cover that I have can get a little slippery for the dogs. I'd throw the mat right on top of the cover, it would add some weight to keep the cover down, as well as be more grippy for paws.

I have used these uhaul pads for years in my old Explorer and now 4Runner. They are great can double them up if needed and shake out any sand/dirt after your trip.

For me these lay up nicely against the wheel covers also and stay up if you double up the the fold.

I also bought a weather Tec floor liner that’s underneath the pad to have this cover Protect my bumper while loading and unloading. This pic is messy but you can get the idea.

    Harbor Freight moving blanket? $2.99

Fairly challenging to keep the interior in great shape when you use the truck as intended. The plastics in the back take a beating.
