Thought of trading in my ‘14 SR5. Not!

Keep the 4Runner?

  1. Keep it!

    100.0%
  2. Trade it for something with less miles and luxury?

I bought my 2014 SR5 about three years ago with 149000 mikes after my wife’s ‘03 highlander succumbed to rust. The 4Runner was viewed as a temporary option because of the mileage until we could chose a more luxurious suv. Fast forward to today. With 167000 mikes the 4Runner is worth almost what I paid for it. I recently put bilstein 5100s all around, fallen widpeaks at3, rear brakes, a caliper and spark plugs which I consider general maintenance. Otherwise this thing has been trouble free. along with my tundra I never see my mechanic. These small repairs have made the 4Runner a little more zippy, better handling and fun to drive. I was looking at the MDX, rx350 and Highlander. But driving it in the recent snow and ice storm here in MA. has made us decide to keep it. It’s a handsome reliable rig and hard to part with if nothing is wrong with it besides high miles.

The funny thing is, 169K miles really isn't even high anymore.

I have an '07 Volvo with 229K on it, and I really didn't start having any real issues with it till 220K. And that's a Volvo.

If you keep up with the routine maintenance, maybe at 269K miles you can start to consider it high, lol.

I mean, this is the main reason we buy these things right? We know they're always going to run, and run, and run...

I will say though, unless you off-road your 4Runner or need to drive through 2 ft of snow all the time, the Highlander probably is a better choice as an everyday vehicle.

Just me but the wife went from a 2015 Highlander to my 2018 4R and now a 2022 RX350L.

350L wins hands down. She actually even washes it on her own and she never does that.
