New to Mods and Needing Help

Hi everyone I just purchased a 5th gen silver 4Runner. I would like to black out the front end but I am not even sure what these pieces I want to replace are called. I will post a pic for reference....

You can paint them or purchase the PRO panels like my dealer swapped for my TRDP.

 

You can black out the sombrero emblem with an overlay. Since you have an SR5 without the clip on valence piece you would have to paint or wrap the lower bumper cover. Or you could buy a valance and cut the holes in the bumper to clip it on. If you are actually going to offroad, most people do a metal low profile bumper and cut out the lower center section anyway.

 

Here are your part numbers for the OEM black lower valances... not cheap.

I think there is a national backorder on the front black valance.

 

You could always look for a silver valence for next to nothing and paint or wrap it. I have one in my storage shed and I am sure a whole bunch of other people have one they want to get rid of but location and shipping hassles/costs make it difficult.

 

Much easier. Less expensive. Parts are availalble.

The plastidip will require maintenance due to rock chips, but its WAY more economical and easily done than buying OEM, removing the entire bumper, etc.

 

I took the valance off from the bumper without taking the bumper off. Wasn't that hard at all, lots of reaching into tight spots but easily doable.

I tried that. XXL hands and weighing 310lbs... no bueno!

 

IMHO, adding the heritage grille and valance is better then painting or dipping

 

I recommend you plasti-dip them. I did and you can see the finished look in my build thread below.

For Christmas my wife also got me the Pro Toyota valence and grill.

I dipped the grill bar and valance on my 4Runner and it held up ok for a while. In my experience it doesn't really handle bug strikes too well. Hit a nice big juicy one and it leaves a permanent mark on the dip. After about 10k miles of regular interstate driving it was looking pretty haggard. I ended up peeling it all off to revert the valence to silver and threw a heritage grill from TacoVinyl on instead. Years ago I dipped the chrome grill trim on the Crosstrek I was driving and it was the same story, it looked ok, but it didn't look too great after a few thousand miles.

At some point I'll probably remove and wrap the front and rear valances with something a little more durable if I'm still feeling like losing the silver.
