Sold the 4Runner and bought a new GX460

Nice GX and I love the way those tires fill those fenders. Any rub issues at full lock reversing?

 

Looks so good what wheels did you buy? Just got mine on Sunday was given 63k for my pro stock.

 

Man, that's a great swap. We got $51k for our ORP and went to the GX premium. Congrats!

That's a great deal!!!! I went with 17 inch fuel rebel 6 wheels. I had methods on 4runner and wasn't quite happy. My wife has some fuel vectors on her 4runner and I love the look. So fuel it was!

 

They look sick, I think of doing bronze. What suspension you getting?

 

I almost went bronze but the wife would have killed me, hahahaha. I have a ICON stage one kit. Getting new rear springs and track bar installed Monday. Stock UCAs as I figured I did not need them at this moment. Can always add later if I need too.

 

Thanks! I really wanted to find the right combo of lift and tire to not have that cavernous space in the wheel well. I think it turned out nice! I get a little rub at full lock when backing out along with if I hit a steep driveway. Other than that nothing else I can tell. I can easily put up with it in exchange for the way it looks.

 

Lift completed. Sitting around 2.5 inches now that it's all set and done. Trimming on both front fender liners and a little on some plastic connected to the factory running board to get rid of any rubbing. Now time to go and get it dirty.

Had some issues with it a little over the weekend but that was before the back springs were installed. When I got it all finished it yesterday they realigned and now its great. In hindsight I should have just gotten the Icon UCA's but I can always go back and put them on. As of no it drives great and no alignment issues. Good luck with the lift!

Being a teacher and on spring break, figured I'd take a crack at starting to delete some chrome on the GX. Plasti dip on the roof rack, turn signals, and door handles. Not satisfied with the handles and signals but the rack turned out great.

Also purchased a new "used" tent trailer for family camping. GX tows it with no issues.

Side profile of the GX looks great and when compared to the 4R, the much taller greenhouse really did make it feel close to a 4/5th LC/LX. When I traded my ‘21 Nebula Grey Premium in for an ORP, it felt comparatively like a turret at first, but the cheapness of the steering wheel was the biggest adjustment.

 

I would have purchased one of those GX's if not for the stupid tailgate, how in the world do you open that if you have a trailer.

 

What off-road goodies does this have? Does it have a low range lock for all four wheels with 25% torque to each wheel?

 

You turn the steering wheel to the left right before you stop to give clearance for it to swing open. That or use the flip up glass to access the rear instead.

I still wish it had the LC200 setup instead.

 

The clamshell setup utterly rules and the fact the new LC/LX omits it really does take it down a few notches for me.

 

Yes GX460 have a low range with 50:50 front and rear split and high range also can be locked 50:50. No you don't get a diff lock like a 4runner to force 1:1 torque rear left & right.
But you can get optional multi terrain management and crawl control on the GX Luxury trim if you get off-road package for extra $1570 which also give fuel tank skid.

Biggest down side is poor ground clearance. Only 8.1 like a Highlander.

 

Until the 2020 refresh you could add the Off-Road Package switches to any trim level of GX 460 and it'd work but they changed things in 2020 and that no longer is an option.

 

The 50/50 split sounds pretty awesome. How does it do in the mud and steep inclines?

 

Crawl control would be nice too if it would actually unstick itself. I doubt it would because of the weight though

 

You already have it on your SR5. When you switch to 4H / 4L on SR5/TRD you are in 50:50 split front and rear. On Limiteds when you are on H4L and L4L you are in 50:50 split front and rear.

I'm not sure how others feel about crawl control & multi terrain select but I love just using A-trac with or without rear difflock on 4Runner.
Rear diff lock on TRD trims will lock left and right wheels. So 50:50 front and rear + 50:50 rear left and right (not available on GX460).

 

I guess I meant lockers on the front and rear so every wheel is pulling. Something like Jeep rock track transfer case with two lockers and four to one low range

 

Nope, No front lockers. Only rear locker available in 4Runner TRD models.

 

Finally took our new "very old" tent trailer for it's maiden voyage to a little spot in Morgan hill. Spent the last two months with the wife redoing the entire inside and it looks brand new. Little test run to see what we needed, what worked, what didn't. The GX towed it with not issue and the brake controller that I installed worked just like it needed to. Next up, Pismo Beach campground in late June. Just a few pics.
