Toyota website says my 4 Runner is 71.5 inches tall including roof rails/roof rack.(not basket)

I’m measuring 72-73 inches and my vehicle is stock with correct air pressure in tires. What gives?

    anyone have any insight?

i was/am trying to put together a roof rack set up that fits in most parking garages but I took the “official dimensions” for granted.

I'm not an engineer, but that sort of variance could be a difference in tires, loaded vs unloaded or measuring technique.
Just for giggles, I went out and measured my SR5 (probably not a valid comparison to the TRD). put a straight board across the rails to avoid bending the tape measure and got exactly 71".

Maybe I measured incorrectly. Thank you for checking it out. The SR5 4x4 and TRD Sport are supposed to be same height.

Good question. It can be tough to measure without bending the tape measure slightly. I found this measuring my Old Explorer prior to getting a 4R.

Then I just got one from the dealer and brought it home to see how it would fit in my garage and tested the tail gate. The size was key reason for buying it for me as it was closest to the old Explorer. I liked the Tacoma but those extra inches sure do take up space in the garage. Then the more I read about the 4R I thought it was best decision.

Most parking garages you should keep it as it is.

I am willing to bet it would fit in most garages. Attached is clip from a spreadsheet I made when researching vehicles prior to my 4R purchase. Height is on bottom. The Yukons and Expeditions are taller and I see those usually without issue in a parking garage.

That was for 2020/2021 model year. I have seen F150s in garages also but they definitely look tight.

I initially wanted one of those but it was too tight in the garage. There was no way I was spending this cash and keeping it outside.
