Hi all - searching was inconclusive, so here I am:

I'm considering doing a suspension upgrade to my 21' OffRoad. Sorry if these are "dumb questions", but I'm a computer geek, not so much of a wrench turner.

I have already replaced tires and don't want increase lift - this is mostly an upgrade to stiffen the suspension and address the braking nose-dive. For the moment, we're most likely to be just driving on Forest Service roads, not doing what I'd consider "heavy off-roading". I've gotten a couple of quotes, but I'm not sure whether I should be doing just front suspension improvements, or whether I need to be doing front and rear at the same time.

Also, assuming I do the 5100s just up front - if I decided to upgrade at a later date, would there be any issues with moving the 5100s out of the front and into the rear? - determined to not work as front are strut, and rear are shock - this is how you say "I know little about cars" without coming out and saying "I know little about cars" :D

There's also a chance I may want to do a front bumper/winch setup at some point in the future - I understand that there's a necessity to improve the spring coils if you add greater weight - is there any potential issue with having medium duty springs on a rig that's still OEM weight? I presume that would make the ride significantly stiffer, perhaps uncomfortably so?

Thanks in advance to those who share their experience and expertise...

    Mike

Different part number for front and rear I believe.

Going to sag if you add bumpers and keep OEM ratings.

Thanks Dillusion :) I expected the sag with bumpers if I didn't replace the springs - the question was whether the ride gets "too stiff" if you have the heavier springs BEFORE you do the bumper?

Probably will be stiff. How stiff no idea I never planned for bumpers so I wouldn't know.

I'm pretty sure you'd notice the difference. The front Bilsteins, if set @ .85 or 1.75, will help mitigate the bumper weight somewhat, depending on whether you are going to a wrap around full size or a smaller hybrid version.

found a good enough deal to just do the 5100s all the way around yesterday and they had the parts in their warehouse. It should be installed next week - I'll upgrade springs when we do the bumper :)
