A Question About Rims...

So I'm planning on getting new rims for my 22 ORP, and I notice that various manufacturers talk about having particular bead gripping/sealing technologies, that are claimed to help prevent popping a bead when aired down. And I "think" I know that full-on bead-locks are not legal on road...

So my question for you all is this... In your experience, is there any benefit to any of the "special" rims?

My offroading is going to be Mid-Atlantic forest service roads, maybe going cautiously into the sand at the OBX, and Colorado mountain mining trails...

I never aired down in my old 86 Runner back in the day, so I have zero experience with this...

 

Under reasonable off road running (no Moab rock crawling) but service roads and mild mountain trails there is no real reason for "special Rims" just limit how much you air down to stay above 10 PSI I go to 15 to 20 PSI for most stuff and that is fine Just Make sure that you air back up Before hitting Pavement or going fast again.

As stated above, bead locks become beneficial when airing down and mostly crawling. They’re good for any off-roading where you air down the tire, and put enough pressure to where you could pop the bead under certain conditions. They’re good for any serious off-roading though.
