I have a 22 Limited. I’ve noticed if the vehicle is idling and radio is off and ac is turned down low you can “hear the roar of the engine” in the interior. It is not loud by any means. Engine is super quiet on the outside but I can still hear it on the inside. Is that normal? Just checking lol..

I'm used to the sound. Had the 1-Grfe in every vehicle I've owned since 2007. It can sound loud at times, I suppose, depending on ambient and neighborhood noise. It's a hoss of a V6. If you're worried , you can take a video and we'll listen. Or run it to the dealer.

I know the 1grfe is noisy. I’m not too worried, just sounds like the engine bay is just poorly insulated.

Maybe it’s an EV disguised as a 4runner?

    It’s got a low growl. I’m sure it’s ok.

Yeah. I've had mine three years and it still strike me as odd. The 4.0 sounds like a Ninja blender full of ball bearings. For the life of me I still can't understand how Toyota thought this level of nvh and noise intrusion into the cabin was acceptable.

I just turn up the radio so I don't have to hear the thing.

At least it’s a bullet proof engine.

Definitely a better way to describe it. Like I said it sounds perfect outside I guess the way the noise transfer through the cabin makes it sound growl-like

Yeah, they're noisy. It is a bit odd. My '03 was way quieter (2UZ V8).

Even with over 250K, it was nearly silent. The fuel injectors were almost all you could hear at idle. I do miss that engine. :D
