TPMS on after new wheels and tires

Had new wheels and tires installed and now the TPMS light is staying on. When installed, the shop couldn't get the sensors to sync and asked me to come back when I could leave the truck longer. Took it back in today and they were still unable to resync the sensors to the computer. Tire shop said they tried all they could and recomended I contact Toyota to fix. Has anyone experienced this after new wheels/tires? I went from stock to 285's. Is this a known issue from moving the sensors and I just live with it?

The old sensors taken from stock tires/wheels. Sensors have aprox 29k Miles. Light was not on before the swap.

It's a minor issue in my opinion if I can't get it off, more an annoyance. I know my vehicle well enough and have driven long enough without a TPMS on every vehicle I've ever owned, one more won't hurt..

 

Plenty of people have swapped the oem sensors to new wheels with no issue, so something's not right. Either one of the sensors got damaged in the installation, or the tire shop is inept. It would drive me up the wall to have that stupid light on, but it's your rodeo.

 

I can't imagine why they wouldn't sync back up if they're the original sensors. Any good shop should be able to resolve the issue.

Like @glwood54 said, it's your call if it's worth worrying about. I have the light on all summer because my Mud tires don't have sensors. But, it would bug me if I had sensors and they didn't work.

Fwiw, my OEM sensors were moved into the wheels I currently have on the truck. They synced fine. I had the wheels off from January until about a month ago, and as soon as I put them back on, the light on the dash went out. So, there's no reason for them not to sync up.

 

Sounds like I may be paying a visit to my dealership. I was hoping for a secret hack that I could deal with at home.

While I'd normally error on the side of incompetence, 3 or 4 different guys took a swing at it over two different visits. 4Runners in my area are not uncommon, so I can't imagine they've never dealt with a similar setup.
