    Hey fellow runners.
Ok so I searched the thread and didn't find anything on this but maybe just didn't search right.... anyway I'd like to add a second horn to the Runner. One that will blow somebody over - something that is loud as hell.

I'm not a huge horn user BUT there are times when I've needed to use it to keep from getting ran into or to embarrass a jackass who cuts me off. For some reason I've found that people want to cut me off and exhibit erratic and unsafe driving when I'm in the Runner. I drive the speed limit, I stay over out of the fast lanes, I start and stop and a reasonable pace and yet It seems the Runner is a jackass magnet. So, last night was the final straw from getting cut off and and having to slam on brakes to avoid hitting the jackass who cut me off.

I'm looking for something supplemental to the existing factory horn. Ideally I'd like to avoid hacking into wiring of the vehicle however not scared of doing so as long as it's a safe splice (wont lead to gremlins).

Any of ya'll have a recommendation for something like this? I've done some preliminary research and there's a blue million options so hoping to glom onto somebody's experience who's already waded into this pond...

    Thanks in advance

You sound like my wife man. I tell her all the time that the horn isn’t going to change anything that happened or will happen in the future. The only thing you’re doing by laying on that horn is potentially putting you and your passengers lives in danger if you piss off the wrong person. Let that shit go and move on.

I understand where you are coming from. I would invest in a front and rear camera instead. This way the next person that cuts you off and if you hit them you can show the cops and it won’t be your fault. This will go a lot further than a horn. As @Brawwp already pointed out. It is done and over with too late by the time you blow the horn. Plus if you blow that horn and a cop is around you might be getting into trouble.

I say this with experience haha. Honked at some idiot in a charger who cut me off, he proceeded to pull up next to me and pull a gun out. I knew nothing would come of it and the tint in my truck is so dark he couldn’t see me, but I don’t think I’ve laid on the horn since. Just not worth it, you never know these days

Stay off Lima Road and I-69 during the afterwork rush. ;) I got tired enough of crappy drivers that I avoid certain roads during specific times. It does wonders for the blood pressure!

    Ah howdy neighbor.
Interestingly it was Lima Road where the latest incident happened. Drivers on that road all seem to have lost their damn minds - it is ridiculous... almost surreal.
litterally had my blood boiling other day

i think I will evaluate the dash cam idea though as a way to have some data.

Excellent point - some real crazies with guns...

i carry a gun everywhere. However, that thing doesn't come out EVER. IF it ever did that's because it's a last resort and it's going to be a bad day for me...
so many others however have no self control, rational thinking skills or maturity

I agree with the others, we now live in a world full of hate :(

I afraid to even flash lights at people driving at night without their headlights on.

Having said that, I had a buddy that had an old vintage tow truck. He installed one of those big air horns on top of the cab, like they use on trains. He was very ornery!

You literally had to hold your ears when standing next to the truck when he let it go. Scare the shi”” out if you!

Sounded just like a freight train. He said cars all around would screech to a stop, Human nature I guess.

I doubt it was legal and I don’t remember how he did the air source, onboard compressor?

Everyone has given good examples of potential consequences but no one has actually answered OPs question. Sometimes a loud ass noise snaps things into focus. What if youre honking to keep someone else from turning into a blind corner where you see another car and they dont? What if there are animals on the road? There are myriad reasons why it can also be positive. @Chucklehead if you want a new horn then by all means...

Now with that said @GrantA is probably most correct. If things go awry and you want proof to show why others are at fault, a front and rear view dash cam will get you further than your word against theirs.

Ah, the good old USA, we are free, but afraid we are going to get shot for honking.
I say go for the loudest you can find and get your CCW, if you don't have it already.

    Lots of goodies
You can get louder horns that are reasonable and not overkill like the big long multi tone air horns on big rigs. The “meep meep” factory horn does not exactly command attention.

Yeah, all the flying sheet metal panels coming off that thing in an accident would slice up and kill everyone within a block radius.

Years ago, it became a thing to install a train horn in the vehicle, then drive around scaring the crap out of people the street. Pretty dicked thing to do but kind of funny at same time. One guy decided to do it on every person he pulled up next too using their phone while driving. It was hilarious.

There was a guy at a Chi-Town 4 x 4 meet with a train horn in an old Toyota pickup. He honked it as he was pulling out and I was half tempted to kick his truck. I was not amused.
