    Hi there,
I’m looking to free up more cargo space for my pets as I become increasingly nomadic. So, I need to find a way to fit my clothing on top of my vehicle in a secure way (trips are 8-24 hours w/ snow). I have a 2021 Limited Nightshade 4Runner with a TRD Pro roof rack. I’m trying to figure out what options I have for weather proof cargo bags and everything online is really for tying it straight to the vehicle, and not on a rack. The hard shell cases don’t seem to provide the type of space the soft shell ones claim to accommodate. I’m also unclear on the internal dimensions of the roof rack I have, and of course I don’t own a tape measure and there is nothing online. I understand I might lose some MPG or be a bit slower, it’s not a long term necessity so that’s fine. I’m also told the weigh limit is 110lbs on the rack so the lighter the better.
I was hoping to find some similar situations here in the forums and can’t seem to locate any.
Is anyone able to provide a recommendation on weather proof cargo bags for a 2021 TRD Pro roof rack and/or the dimensions I should look for online? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Stella

Happy to be here, thanks! This is already 10x better than anything I have found. Thank you!

Good morning Stella and welcome to the forum.
This might not be exactly what you're looking for but, I've been using an inexpensive roof top bag that I think I got from one of the discount auto parts stores or it could have been at Wally mart. Anyway, it sits on a piece of plywood that was cut to fit the dimensions of the bags footprint.
On my '16 plain Jane roof rack (non pro), I put some of that black split foam pipe insulation to sort of protect the rails.
And use 4 budget ratchet straps (2 across, 2 front to back) from Harbor Freight that get threaded under the rails and then over the bag.
I've used this method for several years traveling back and forth from MT to SoCal. It always stays dry inside and gas mileage be damned I say.

It works and I hope this helps you Stella.

Ps, it's not the best solution if you're getting into the bag several times a day (which I don't) so a hard sided container might be your best bet.

Good day from the snowy North.

I measured my TRD Pro's roof rack while searching for a storage solution. It's (roughly) 39.5" front to back if you leave the front/top crossbar on and adjust it all the way forward. Side to side is about 37.5"... In the images below, I had my front/top crossbar pulled back about couple of inches from the bumper stops to fit my 36" plano rifle cases.
