Just received an interesting letter from my dealer yesterday. They are offering to pay me exactly what I paid for my 2020 4R.

The deal was offered until just before Christmas. Iv won't be doing it, as I have too much invested in upgrades. But the demand for uses 4Rs must be high, if they are willing to give you what you paid for it.

    That is interesting.

If my dealer offers to trade a new Pro for my 18’ SR5, I would take it. But I’m not holding my breath. ;)

Weird times. I sold a travel trailer that I bought 3 years ago for 2k more than I paid for it. I imagine they would give you what you paid them for the 4Runner, maybe even more.

They just want you to spend more money with them. If you sell high, you'll have to purchase high due to the market conditions.

A few months ago I was offered more than I paid for my '19, even with over 50K miles on it. It would certainly be tempting if I wanted to switch vehicles.

If you take the bait I recommend buying the replacement before you sell! The lots around here have pretty slim pickings.
I paid $13k for my RV new in 2018 and just sold back to the dealership for $17,200. They already had a buyer for it when I dropped it off. That is why they want to buy your 4Runner. They already have a buyer and their records show you have what he wants.
Good time to sell, bad time to buy anything, not just vehicles. Everything that is in short supply is as good as cash right now.

It is just a wild time. I had a car buying service buy out my leased Jeep 4xe because they just "had to have it in their inventory". When I leased the vehicle, CCAP used the Federal EV rebate value as a cap cost reduction up front. I made three payments on that lease before the service bought it out. Check to me: $10,548.

I was just in the position where I could do that and still had our old '04 LJ to rely on for transportation. Now on the hunt for my 4Runner.

I think the only thing worse is the Wrangler market I've had crazy stupid offers on my 04 Wrangler and I just saw an 05 Rubicon with 60,000 mi go for almost 40 Grand

A Wrangler and a 4Runner are certainly not apples to apples but I love them both. I've never been without a Wrangler since learning how to drive

Same. In September, I was offered $42k for my 16 SR5 with 35K miles... Was seriously thinking about it, but didnt feel like driving all the way back to Virginia.

    Wow!

I’m beginning to feel a little left out, no one has made me any offers. :(

I freaking love Wranglers. The 4Runner was actually my second choice, I wanted the Wrangler because I found it a lot more exciting, but I bought the 4Runner for practical reasons. Sometimes being an adult is no fun.

That's what I paid for my 2021 TRD/ORP/MR - just before the crazy pricing started. LOL Dealers must be desperate for inventory in some areas.

    Yup! Jeep 4.0 > Toyota 4.0.

As far as the original post...

I'm seriously considering trying to sell mine. I don't know if I'll get one of these crazy offers for a 2013 with 130k on it, but then again it is a Trail Edition so it is a little bit rare, and mine is very clean.

I'm just having a hard time letting it go, not really because I love it, but just because I know that it will be a reliable vehicle for years to come. If I were to sell it, I would put 3/4 of the money in the bank, and the rest would be my budget for a replacement vehicle. Even though it's a crazy time, I'm trying to save as much money as I can for a home purchase (eventually). So it would be nice to be able to put a year's worth of savings in the bank in one shot. Kbb has the clean private party at pretty much what I paid for it 3 years ago.

For a replacement I'm really liking GMT800 Tahoes and Suburbans, but I know the reliability is not on par with the 4Runner.

One thing I like about my 4R is that I'm 99.9% sure that it's always going to work when I need it to. If I were to switch over to a 20 y/o GM product, I know I wouldn't have that peace of mind.

In the pro column, they're cheap to buy and I love the LS engines, and parts are plentiful and cheap as well. The negatives is the aftermarket for things like armor is not as good for them as it is for a 4Runner.

    Decisions, decisions.

There are two Toyota dealers close to me, one of them is just a small local dealer, and the other one is a larger dealer that has multiple franchises around the state. Both of them are very low on inventory. I haven't yet seen any new Tundras at either one of them, though the smaller one does have two or three Tacos and a 4R LTD. The larger dealer I can see from the highway, they have a huge lot that used to be full. Now it's just a vast expanse of empty parking lot, with all the cars parked to fill the row closest to the street. I remember I drove a Tacoma there three or four years ago, and the spot where they had a line of dozens of Tacoma's is now completely empty.

I am SO glad I'm not looking to buy anything now.

I had a 2006 Black LJ Rubicon Wrangler (last year for the two door). A very solid jeep that was more beastlike than my 2021 Pro 4R, but the 4R is a much better all around vehicle. Paid $27,000 new for the jeep in 2006 and traded it in for my wife's Honda Pilot in 2013 with only 22,000 miles on it in seven years - got $15,000 trade-in. I have been told that jeep is worth about $25,000 now. I was always worried about having a accident in the jeep with my kids in the back since I kept the soft top off from May till November (garage kept / 2nd car). I regret getting rid of it and my three boys were pissed! But, it was much safer for them to learn how to drive in our beater 2002 Suburban which we still have with 238,000 miles and some rust!

Just remember that if you want to get a great deal selling your used truck for ridiculously high prices, if that is your only truck, you’re going to have to pay ridiculously high prices for a new one.

If you are wanting to unload one of a few vehicles you don’t drive anymore, now is a great time to do so.

Pretty cool times for those of us getting rid of cars - I sold my 2019 CRV for almost what I paid for it ;) the day before flying to Tennessee to pick up my new 2022 Lime Rush Pro down. Tried several online places such as Carvana, Vroom, and Carmax with Carmax coming out on top (by a couple thousand). Then went to the Honda dealership that sold it to me, let them look it over and then showed them the Carmax offer and told them I wanted $100 more - bingo Deal . We got about $3000-4000 over what we would have expected in "normal" times. Pays for the sliders and then some....

Interesting. Carvana offered only $37K for my 2020 Venture. 17k miles.
