Howdy! After installing my new Alpine iLX-W650 I discovered that it has to be connected to the parking brake to enable all of its functions. I watched some Youtube vids but the ones I found with 5th Gens are all using a bypass connector. I will do that if I have to, but would rather connect it to the parking brake as is intended.

I see where the 2 wires come off the parking brake switch, but I do not see how to get to them anywhere near the pedal.

I even removed the metal frame below the steering column and the two electrical “modules” and their frame that are in front of the pedal. The bundles of wires are so stiff…I can unplug them and MAYBE get to them, but I am pretty sure I will not be able to get them plugged back in.

I know there is a bypass connector (already ordered one in case I can’t connect to that wire), and a method to defeat it with a toggle but I don’t wanna have to do a buncha clickity switches every time I wanna enable bluetooth.

Finally, the questions: 1. Is there somewhere under the hood or upper dash where I can access that wire easier?

    2. Is the wire I need to connect to solid light green? Hard to tell under there!

    Thanks in advance! ✌️

I'm pretty sure most of those just need to be shorted or grounded in order to trick it to think the vehicle is stopped.

Don't waste your time wiring it to the parking brake.

    *Edit
K well I'm obviously out of touch with current stereo.

Looks like they got a little smarter making it harder to by pass. You need this.

Yep! Been a long time since I installed a stereo! A lot has changed.
edit: Alpine specifically looks for 2 repeating signals from the brake to activate all its features, including setup and Bluetooth. Wish I’d bought the Kenwood.

Thanks for the link. I’d not yet come across that or mention of it in my digging. Be safe! ✌️
