Should I go Bilstein 5100 or 6112 in the front?

Found out the dealer can install either one when my 2022 ORP 4R finally shows up who knows when. So it will be mainly for highways and dirt/gravel roads. I'll just have 5110 shocks in the rear. Which one would be better for this use? And would either one decrease the nosedive on braking that the 4R is known for? With these shocks would KDSS still be as helpful in decreasing body lean on the highway? Thanks!

The 5100's should be just fine, 6112 would be overkill imho based off what you told us.

Yes, the 5100's greatly reduce the nose-dive and boat-like feeling when turning.

    (I have 5100's)

I have 5100s up front and for the money they’re a huge improvement over stock.
They both help with the nosedive and body roll as they’re stiffer shocks.

I was going back and forth between those two myself, for what usage do you think one should step up to the 6112?

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of getting the KDSS if possible but I guess it's not really worth it in my situation if I upgrade the shocks?

Spend the extra money. 6112’s. IMO

I have KDSS and absolutely love it. I also put Bilstein 6112s with coilovers from Toytec in the front. Completely eliminated nosedive under braking. And I used the settings on the 6112s to level the front of the truck - only raised it about 1.85 inches, but to me it makes all the difference. I put 5100s in back. Very happy with what I have.

I'm leaning toward the 6112. Do you know how the spring that comes with the 6112 compares with the stock spring and is the stated amount of lift pretty accurate? I don't plan on adding a lot of weight to the 4R.

Here is a link to my before and after https://www.4runners.com/threads/my-first-4runner.15553/

As I said, the comparison between the stock spring and the Bilstein is nigh and day. Completely eliminated the nosedive and I am very happy with the ride.

Thanks for the link. What a big difference! I didn't realize how much of a rake these 4Rs came with. Your 4R looks great now!

Your 4R has KDSS? How was the body roll and nose dive before the Bilstein? I just have a 4R on order and the way things are now, it's hard to be choosey. I don't know if I should wait for one with KDSS to show up or would the Bilsteins be enough on a non-KDSS model for mostly dirt road and highway use?

Looking at the 6112 instructions for nonKDSS, the circlip position should be 2 positions higher on the drivers side. Wonder why?

To compensate for the "drivers side lean".

I’ll just say I have a stock 2018 Pro and there is very little to no nosedive.

What is the reason for the drivers side lean?

Doesn't the Pro come with the good shocks?

Thank you, I am very happy with it. The body roll wasn't bad at all - KDSS controls that. The nose dive drove me crazy!! If you can, test drive one with and without KDSS. I'm an aggressive driver, and KDSS makes the truck feel solid with almost no body roll.

Many say that it is because of the battery, fuel tank & weight of driver on the left side of the vehicle.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.
