Exhaust Leak

So my toyoyo 4runner has smoke coming out the back and I located the spot but I dont know what the part is called. Looks like it comes after the headers and before the catalytic converter. Anyone know whats it called? Also smells like something burnt. We also have an acceleration decrease take longer to move the rev limiter has to move up for like a second and a half then it starts going.

 

Behind the exhaust manifold is the front catalytic converter and then connected to that is a second catalytic converter. In between are threaded O2 sensor ports. No other pipes/parts that I am aware of.

If it's a burning smell, you sure you don't have oil leaking on the exhaust? From valve cover gaskets? How's your oil usage?

 

We know forsure that its leaking oil out of the valve covers but we just have to replace the gaskets. But we had the truck sitting for about a month since the last time we turned it on.problem was that we had a damaged terminal. Anyways it was sitting for about half a month and right when we turn it maybe 1 or 2 minutes in it starts smoking. I saw that an exhaust leak make you lose acceleration power and thats what happened with ours so im sure its an exhaust leak. Oil is good we replace it every year.

 

Exhaust leak won't really lose you power. Even if the O2 sensor throws a code due to a leak, I don't think you will get much, if any loss of power.

A clogged Catalytic converter will cause a loss of power and back up pressure which may leak out.

I would check to see if the Cat is fine. Check the temperature front to back. A bad cat will be the same temperature on both side or lower temperature towards the back of the car. Or after a while, it glows cherry red if it's really clogged.

Is your 4runner CA emissions spec or federal spec? I think only the CA emissions spec has 2 cats
