How much would a top of the line Lime Rush paint job cost on a 4R?

Top of the line, with proper prep work and painting the jambs and trim would probably be between $15-$20k. I bet you could get a vinyl wrap for a couple grand though.

Hi Guys, found this site and decided to join if for nothing else to clear a mistake.

I currently work at John Elway's Crown Toyota (don't worry, I'm not here to solicit anything) and have been here for 3 years and in the business in every aspect for nearly 30 years.

Crown Toyota DOES NOT have a mark up and since John Elway's name has been on the store, they never have. Not even when dealers were marking up Supras.

I think I read somewhere that Crown Toyota had a mark up of $7K on an SR5 (something about a broker). NOT TRUE.

Managers are not allowed to send paperwork to finance if the price is over MSRP and if they do, the finance department catches it and sends it back. It used to be before this craziness John Elway's Crown Toyota was a One Price store below MSRP with no haggling. Obviously given the current climate, things have changed but they are definitely not over MSRP. The sales staff gets paid a flat rate for each car which means if they sell you a Corolla or a 4Runner, they get paid exactly the same hence they are not there to upsell you on a higher trim model because they make more money because they simply don't. Honestly the salesman gets screwed there but then again, the salesman sells more cars due to the "One Price.Simple.No Games" process which our clients love. In the Inland Empire there are roughly about 8-10 Toyota dealers and we are the ONLY ones NOT MARKING up our prices hence the lack of inventory at our store. The dealers who do have a handful of vehicles in stock have it because of the mark up. Unfortunately, we as well as some other dealers have enforced Toyota's 25 mile rule. This rule has always been in place however when inventory was plentiful, no one cared but now that it's not, we have to be fair to our local clients. At Crown Toyota we can still sell you a vehicle if you're outside our market but the vehicle has to be in stock and we cannot take a deposit on any incoming vehicle. The only way around that is if you are a previous customer.

A couple of things I'll mention. Crown Toyota used to put lift-kits, over-sized tires and rims on certain models for a pretty penny however being one of the largest dealers we always had a twin or 3 of that same model you can buy without the add-ons. With the global chip shortage John Elway's Crown Toyota paused doing this as inventory was scarce but from time to time they will do it and maybe this is what the other person who claimed $7K over meant but again, John Elway's Crown Toyota does NOT MARK up prices.

On a different note, I read something about Longo and out of state, sales tax or shipping. In the beautiful state of CA, if a customer drives off the lot, the dealer is required to charge sales tax for the county the client lives in however if the client is out of state and he/she drives off the lot then the dealer is required to charge sales tax where the dealer is located and in Longo's case that's a whopping 10%. The only way around this is if the vehicle is shipped. No new car franchise dealer will risk their franchise, just not worth it.

Anyways, I just wanted to mention that. Happy Thanksgiving folks!

From your post that I’ve quoted, it sounds like you were on the right path to clear things up UNTIL you mentioning “Reading something about Longo”.

If you have no evidence of their practice, then you’re just adding to the slander that you’re trying to avoid about your dealership.

Lack of inventory seems to be a problem at all dealerships right now and your dealerships NO MARKUP practice may not be the reason.

To be clear, I’m not defending any dealership. If your dealership or ANY dealership has the vehicle I’m looking to purchase AND sell it to me at MSRP, consider it sold.

Actually, you misunderstood me, I'm by no means slandering ANY dealership good or bad. On this very thread someone said something about not purchasing a vehicle from Longo because they wanted to charge CA sales tax for an out of state customer or have the customer pay for shipping. I was just commenting on why (the dealer Longo in this case) took that stance.

Regarding selling at MSRP, any new vehicle we have is sold at MSRP period, no if's, and's or but's about it however as I indicated, you have to live within 25 miles or be a previous customer.

I'm not here to get you to buy from me but rather to clear up what I read on this particular thread about Crown Toyota marking up SR5's $7K and I actually went through all 14 pages of comments hence why I decided to chime in. Hope that was clear enough.

    Happy Holidays!

Like I said in my earlier post, you were going in the right direction trying to clear up what practices your dealership follow.

Hear say is just that. Not everything on this or any other thread is true.

It would be good business practice to focus on YOUR dealership and leave others out of the conversation.

I didn’t get the impression that you were trying to get me to purchase from your dealership. That wasn’t even my point.

I was commenting on a post from this thread as to the legal reason why a dealer would ask an out of state customer to pay CA sales tax or pay for shipping and in no way shape or form slandering them..quite the opposite but my mistake, I should have posted the thread instead to make it clear. Sorry

    Happy Holidays!

I think they had a great post and shared info to help us understand why Longo may have told the customer what they did.

I also didn’t know about the 25 mile rule, I would think it needs to be more than 25 miles, but good on those that are following the rules.

Oh and as an Elway fan, glad to here his dealerships are treating folks right.

Lots of news services are reporting that Toyota is ramping up production again and has somehow figured out the chip shortage issue. Maybe there is hope of getting things more normal…..

Purchased my new 2022 4runner SR5 at msrp on Friday from Autonation Toyota ft.Myers, FL. Great service and honest staff! found what I was looking for after contacting mutiple dealers and being charged a markup from 4-10k from different FL dealers (Toyota of Orlando, Toyota of Clermont, and Toyota of North Miami) Definitely stay away from North Miami, they are thieves and extremely rude.

Also another dealer with msrp was Toyota of Jacksonville.

I can now confirm that Autonation Toyota in Tempe is charging a $15k ‘market adjustment’ on the trd pros. That’s almost $80k for a 4Runner and that’s ridiculous. My guy is currently “seeing what he can do for me” but Jeep also just offered me $44k for my 2019 4Runner….. we’ll see what happens….

Time to look at the list of MSRP dealerships and put your business with someone who doesn't take you for granted. My locals wanted $12.5k and didn't even offer my choice in color - taking my business to Tennessee and once I have my car back in Colorado, those dealerships will not see any of my business. I figure flying my wife and I out to TN, adding gas, food, etc. on the nice road trip, that I'll save 11-12K ;)

The list is not updated for Arizona. I contacted one of the ones on there (out of 2) and they’re charging $10k plus add ons. I haven’t contacted the other one but I might. This saga has been so ongoing that I don’t even feel super gung ho about staying with Toyota. The frustration will pass I’m sure. I’m just feeling very over it all today lol #venting

I was lucky, my son-in-law found my allocation posted in a group back at end of Oct. The only hitch being it was out of state (1100 miles). Put deposit down and trying to exercise my patience for the next couple weeks (I hope) with projected delivery 9-14 Dec;)

Just FYI, a TRD Pro in Lime Rush arrived at Long Beach port yesterday. MSRP is $54,770 and if you're local (within 25 miles), a previous customer or work in Ontario, the vehicle is available at MSRP. Vehicle should arrive at the dealership within 2 weeks

Wait if I remember correctly they had a lunar rock for you then moved you to a lime rush? Now they won’t honor the price they said?

I am willing to bet they sold the lunar rock from under you and blamed it on toyota.

You nailed it. Although they never gave me a solid price on the lime rush they just told me today about the markup. I would not be surprised if they did that. I told my Toyota guy about Jeeps offer to buy my ‘19 runner and he said they would probably get close to that when they reevaluate the trade lol I’m making him work. So if his offer isn’t good enough, the Runner gets traded in elsewhere. It’s a shame, really. This dealership had my loyalty. This is their last chance!

Autonation Toyota in Tempe, Arizona. Also, camelback Toyota is not msrp either (but they are on the msrp list)
