    I purchased it...!!!

Took me a couple of months to find a pre-facelift 3rd Gen in a manual that was not trashed out.

I got super lucky and found this '97 that also has the rear locker. 2 owner with 240,200 miles. Runs and drives almost perfect and looks great!

Promptly drove over to the WeatherTech store and picked up some floor mats, rotated the tires (needed it badly but tires are good shape overall) and finished putting 74 miles on it by swinging over to Tokyo Joes for some good grub.

Went in to town, ran like a champ! Had to drop off Corolla, I’m thinking the hvac/radio short may be the corroded main battery ground. Or a fuse, there are so many fuses I checked a couple they looked good, leave it to the experts.
I had to get new underwear too mine were disintegrated.

Very Nice!! Just got a ‘96 5speed myself. Here in Northern Ca. I had to pay $6800.00 for one with 265,000 miles! Curious what others are paying?

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
Back in March this year, my lovely wife found, and we bought, a 1999 4Runner. 5spd MT, 4WD, 5VZ-FE engine, locker in the rear diff. The dealer we bought it from had just done the timing belt/water pump replacement, and had replaced the ECU for an idle fast problem. It had been a fleet vehicle, so was well maintained, paint in nearly pristine condition, etc. Missing a few little details. The cover for the cabin fuse block, the pull strap for the tail gate, the radio antenna and such. Still need to replace the radio antenna.
It had a CEL due to the knock sensors being bad. Big deal. Those got replaced, along with the water control valve that disintegrated when my mechanic touched it. He replaced it free, since his worker destroyed it. He touched it when he was pulling the intake to get to the knock sensors.

Anywho, the dealer's price was listed as $6800.00, but we talked him down to $5500.00, and he knocked $500.00 off for me being military. So we paid $5000.00 for it, plus what all the bits and chunks cost us. About $200.00. $1100.00 to get it shipped to us, which was about 1/2 what it would cost us to fly to Denver to pick it up and drive back.
Oh, right after our deposit check cleared, both my lovely wife and the deal saw ANOTHER 4Runner on the other side of Denver. A low, low price of $12,000.00. The dealer was good natured about it, but we could tell he realized we essentially stole that truck off his lot :D Too bad our deposit had cleared, sealing the deal... :D

We just blew a quick $700 getting the truck a ceramic coating for the paint. Made it feel like glass. I tried to lean on it stepping down from a curb, and my hand just slid right off. SLICK! Looks sweet, too. Shiiiiinnneeeyyy...

This truck will most likely last us the rest of our lives, with the right maintenance. It WILL get it too :)

    Have fun, all!

    I paid $3400 for my 97 5 speed 4x4 4cyl. with 325k in early 2020 just before the SHTF

I probably overpaid a little at the time, but in retrospect not so much

Changed the gear oil in the trans and the diff. While under the truck, I noticed a sandwich bag hanging down near the front.

Turned out to be an original Toyota key hidden by someone many years ago… I’m excited about this because I only received after market garbage keys from the seller and this was a very cool find for me!

    Awesome! Lucky find.

Now, go to a GOOD locksmith, and get it duped a few times. Make sure you check each one for proper functioning!

Maybe you can hide one someplace for a future owner to find :)

    Have fun!

99 Limited, V-6 with 275K miles, loaded with almost everything working, $4000 in October a year ago, I was told at the time that was about the right price, probably double now, a few mods, wheels, tires, rear springs, seat covers, etc. I think the alternator just took a dump though

    Too many for this space.
I installed a better set of LED headlights in mine.
These allow for the factory rubber boot to be used because the fan and fins are inside the light housing. This also heats the housing for snow melt purposes.
Really happy with them and wanted to share. Got them from www.Auxito.com.

Do these really improve the lighting while night driving….like a modern vehicle?
I have installed some upgraded lights that were barely a noticeable improvement.

Very nice! I think the pinstripe sets these off nicely. Seems totally random which 4R’s came with or without them.

Thanks & yes it is aftermarket. Got it from SRQ Fabrications. I think it really makes a huge difference in the look on the 3rd gens.

The light output is white and crisp, and if run on brights the projection is awesome. When on dim they are a nicer light, but no improvement on projection.
