Anyone tried the Viper Smart Start? Seems interesting, you can start with an app anywhere and it geo-locates your car - useful if you have kids that drive or if you're worried about theft.

My 2022 TRD ORP has it from factory. With the smart key push Lock then Lock again and then again holding Lock in succession. If the lights start to blink should work. The availability of the factory remote option seems to jump around between various model years and trims. Surprised it doesn't work on '22 Sport.

Yeah, it does not work on the 22 sport, but dos on my 21 Off Road Tacoma. We ordered the Start-X and I will install Sunday.

I can see certain circumstances where remote start may be advantageous, such as living in the arctic or summers in the south.

But given my circumstances, living in a mild climate and having a garage, I would decline, even if it was a free add on. It would be an unnecessary feature that adds one more failure point.

Only the Limited and TRD Pro have the OEM remote start. It's part of the upgraded JBL sound system package.

Report back on how you like it and especially how much trouble it was. I’m not very patient with disassembling the interior.

I had the interior apart on my days old Tacoma OR putting in switch panels for ditch lights and a light bar. Toyota interiors are like an old snap-tight model kit. Hardly ever anything but pressure clips.

    I'll report back Sunday.

My '22 ORP has it and it's not a Limited or Pro nor does it have the JBL sound system. And yes it's factory OEM.

My only experience with a remote start was with an aftermarket one on my son's Corolla. It failed in such a way as to take out the battery, starter, and possibly alternator. PITA for what little convenience it provided.

according to this one, it should not... this was all I was going on, could be wrong.

perhaps it was added at the dealer?

Nope trucks bone stock no add on. Probably just a model year change up from '20 to '22 or it's a Canadian thing as Toyota seems to ship us Canucks only premium models. We're a very small market. You guys have way more selection and choice. No such thing as 2wd 4Runners, Tacos, Tundras or Sequoias up here everything is 4wd. All 4Runners up here have a moon roof as well unless you can find a trail edition which are like unicorns up here.

Ahhh.. yes. I have heard that options like that are available outside the U.S. on other trim levels.

For us in the states, though, only Limited and Pro will come with it.

Just got done installing the Start-X on my wife's 2022 TRD Sport 4Runner. Took about 30 minutes, most of which was spent disassembling the interior.

Straight forward, pretty much. Only thing tricky was the removal of the HVAC trim panel. Nowhere in the instructional video did they show this. The panel just magically disappeared. You need to remove it to remove a small trim piece in order to get to a bolt that holds the knee airbag in place. Once that was done, you just add the t-connector, go through the programming steps and test it. Works great.
