    Hey All.
Tryin to make the right decision on a 3inch lift to accommodate the ever popular BFG 385 70 R17 craze. Sooo many products and Youtube posts with advice. Put half down on the Rough Country Suspension lift R/C 70631. Should I spend a bit more for a better brand? Some minor technical off roading, but mostly Tahoe winter snow travel...skiing and some back country thrashing about , and winter camping.
    Thanks.

Did you mean 315 instead of 385? Lift won’t really help clear 315’s as much as extensive wheel well work, chopping the body mounts, alignment, and wheel specs.
This is a perosnal opinion bit 35’s will probably ride pretty crappy on a spacer lift. I’d recommend getting a true suspension lift.

To fit the tires more will come to play than the lift. Probably will need UCA and a BMC to accommodate. I’d also steer clear of rough country. It’s Garbo. Spend a little extra and get Bilstein 5100 and rear springs. (Wheelers, eibach and icon are all good choices).

Ha ha.. I guess the best advice to OP would be search around and give some time to learn about lifts. So many different ideas on this topic. For example I love my spacer lift for the looks and absolutely love suspension lift for trails.

I love ELKA lift and Bilstien is not bad too. OME was great on trails and not very good on local roads driving. I know some people have really good experience with Redflo and some have great experience with Dobinsons.

    Antman-
Why do you think Rough Country is "Gretta"? You had them? Their a grand less than some of the upper echelon of suspension lifts. They had a slump in engineering some time ago and now the talk is about their rebound in quality.

If I were looking for a budget lift, I would look into Bilstein and Eibach. I believe Dobinson has some reasonably priced options as well.

Like the others mentioned, alignment and trimming are the way to actually clear tires. For 285's, you can probably get by with a good alignment (maximum caster) and trimming some plastic.

I don’t think, I know. There’s a reason why their priced so much lower than others.

I’ve had multiple friends go with rough country and blow multiple shocks a year due to over extension from the blocks.

    Hi all.
I appreciate all the advice. I was urged to join a forum, and I'm happy I did. I did the research on the Blistien lift, and it had great technical reviews. I'm not looking for a budget lift really...has anyone said what 3 inch lift they have on their 4Runner? How it performed over the years? Who has the Bilstien lift?
By the way RETRObeam is a business I own in Cali-

    The whole enchilada,

    Lift: Front: Dobinsons IMS59-50700 shocks - coils C59-302 - 2.7/3.0" - Rear: shocks IMS59-50705 - Coils C59-505 - 1.7". No Upper Control Arms needed. Lift with tires Bfg KO 2 - 285/70/17 installed around a 3.6" lift; works wonders.
