Rear Camshaft seal replacement

    How tough of a job is this ????? I need some advice on how to do this the easy way...... if there is such a thing . I just replaced the valve cover gasket because of a leak and find out it wasn't the only thing leaking back there .... awaiting any expertise !!!!!

Having gone 250k, Aug 2016 was the time to replace the original clutch & get the driver's seat rebuilt/stuffed. Front & back Weathertech liners. '05 Tundra front disc brake swap. Full length Rocky Mountain Rack with 40" lightbar, Alternating strobe rear dust lights. I used a warm weekend in March 2022 to finally install my brand new from old stock 2000 4Runner driver's seat. $800 directly from the factory in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
    If you're going to do a rear main seal, you may as well service your clutch because it has to come off to get to it. It's an extra $20-$40 gasket from NAPA that you replace when putting in a new clutch & throw out bearing if you have a manual trans. I've never owned an automatic trans., so I don't know anything about what's involved with them. I would still imagine though, that it's forward of the torque converter when the trans. bell housing is removed. According to a Toyota master mechanic I know, he says that manual clutch plates on 5VZ-FE engines usually last between 250k-300k. With a lift, a trans. jack, pneumatic tools & a case of PBR waiting for you when you get done, it's going to be 4hrs if everything goes well, 8+ hrs if it doesn't.

    Having done this procedure before myself, I've found the easiest way to do this job is to hire a pro to do it. :anonymous: What you lose in bragging rights, you gain in a liability/service warranty. Click the link below for the FSM. Auto Trans. - pg. 1075.

    I'm not replacing the Crank rear main seal, I'm replacing the Camshaft real main seals !!! To that, my 4Runner has an automatic trans !!! However, thanks for the tips !!!!!!

    A few things here and there. Still dreaming up stuff
    It's a pain in the ass if the heads are still on and this is why. It's not easy to get the seals out of the back of the head because you have little to no room back there. Now am I saying it can't be done. No, its just not what I would call a easy one I just redid my 99 on a engine stand for that reason.

    That's exactly what I was concerned about !!!!! There are a couple of u2 videos that show how to do it with a puller , but I don't know what has to be removed to actually...... get er done !!!!

    Had to pull the intake plenum and the valve coves to get the back of the block !!! Changed both Camshaft plugs seals ....... so far running good with no issues or leaks !!!!!
