For the members struggling with rust. Zinga was invented in Belgium 40 years ago. Looks like it is now available in the US and broader markets. This is not a rust spray paint solution, like Rustoleum and others. This is a cold galvanization containing 96% Zinc. I have used this for many years & different applications where rust was a big concern, the nice part, you can apply Zinga on rust surfaces, withstand mechanical & thermal shocks. The product is used for industrial applications; that's why most people don't know about it.

The Zinga film cold galvanizing system is a one pack coating that contains 96% zinc in the dry film and provides cathodic protection to steel. It can be used as a unique system as an alternative to hot-dip galvanization or metallization, as primer in a duplex system or as a recharging system for hot-dip galvanization or metallization, and guards against rust and corrosion. It can be applied by brushing, rolling or spraying on a clean and rough substrate in a wide range of atmospheric circumstances. Zinga is also available as an aerosol and is sold as Zingaspray.

@Roland - thanks for posting this, looks promising. I’m just wondering how it works with existing rust, and how much prep it needs to bond. Hot galvanizing very strictly requires a clean surface, which is only attainable through disassembly and sand blasting. As in old vehicle total restorations. The problem for most of us is getting something to stick to a daily driver that will help protect it, while it has existing rust. Rust converter and Por 15 work pretty well, in this regard.

Well, out of my experience with existing rust it works very well. You are correct about hot galvanization. In the case of this product, it is cold galvanizing and the sandblasting is not required; nevertheless, the better you scrape or clean the rust surface the better it works. Great results are acquired with using a simple steel brush. The easy part is the touch-ups, which is done in no time.

Because it's 100% bonding, and in case an area around the Zinga applied surface would rust, the area where the application was used will not be affected, proving a 100% bond. In my case the bonding was 100 % I applied two layers.

I acquired friends in Alaska, when hunting on the Bering sea, the rust problems over there are just mind-boggling from one day to another. I had some product cannisters left and mailed to them. They couldn't believe the results on their vehicles & boats. They ordered the product from Belgium, it was not sold in the US back then.

Zinga applications are used in the heavy industry. I live in a dry climate, so no need anymore. I used it on cars, AC units & my boat, I still have a 26 year old spray can left, no shelf life, haha.

Dry here too, annual rainfall 3.3" - but, if I lived in the rust belt it would likely be the first thing done.

When it comes to rust inhibiting products, they're all applied to the outside of the frame, correct?

Isn't it more likely that the frame will rust from the inside out? Or is that not a concern?

Yes, correct, the product is applied to the outside of the frame, you can apply Zinga, on any rust surface, keeping in mind to prep with a steel brush or better.

The undercarriage will have the most contact with salts and all kinds of contamination and will rust faster than the inside of the frame. Hence, Long term everything rust, even the most resistant alloys (Chromium/Nickel) (stainless steel - 304 - 316 and better, Monel, Inconel etc.) all a matter of time span.

Iron can rust from either exposure to air or exposure to moisture. Both oxygen and moisture are a catalysts for rusting. When iron is exposed to air or moisture, oxidation will convert it into iron oxide in a short time span, depending on the environment.

A cathodic protection to steel will be good for the lifetime of a vehicle undercarriage and will be a guard against rust and corrosion better than any paint.

In case of a vehicle, mechanical shocks are the biggest problem, the undercarriage is consistently exposed to particles, and debris hitting on high speed no matter where you drive. I.E. banging a painted surface with a hammer the paint comes off and the process of rusting accelerates, with a cathodic protection nothing comes off because of the bonding. I'm sure you already know that, haha . Lol.

 

Yes, you can buy it in spray cans.
It does not come in black, it's not a paint. Nevertheless, you can paint over it if you don't like the color.
