I bought an extra set of snow tires and wheels last year and new pressure sensors that I had cloned to the original wheel sensors and all worked well. Took the snows off this spring and put the original wheels and tires back on, no problem. TPWS system worked fine. Just put the snow tires and wheels back on for this season and it took 4 (four) days for the system to recognize the cloned sensors. Can anyone explain the advantages of the TPWS system other than to make money for Toyota and the manufacturer of the components? No need to respond just venting my frustrations.

TPMS is mandatory on cars sold in the US since 2007.

When it works it's great when it doesn't it's a pain in the you know where.
I had a 2004 T4R Sport that had TPMS in all 5 tires. By the time I got rid of it I had batteries die in most of the tires and at that time $75 a pop plus install kit and installation it got old replacing them.
There was an easy permanent fix by shorting out one of the wires going into the TPMS ECU thaytturned off the warning LED
