    Some people are just trash.

I wonder if they bothered to arrest anyone. I really hope so. But, I somehow doubt it. o_O

They learned how to use photos and video from online sources to wrangle up the Jan 6th folks, so I am fully expecting to read about each and every one of these folks involved in this incident have been wrangled up and charged. :boink:

Not condoning what happened here, but I’m pretty sure you can’t shoot someone to protect personal property.

    DEFENSE OF PROPERTY
Under certain situations, a person may use force to defend against a “malicious trespass or interference" with real or personal property. This means that if someone is entering your home or taking or damaging your property and they are doing so with an evil purpose, you can defend your property by force. The same rules apply to this defense, which is that you may not use more force than is necessary to defend your property.

I'd love to see someone attempt to prove that deadly force was necessary to protect their vehicle. Unless the owner was inside of the vehicle, vandalism would certainly not necessitate that.

That said, anyone involved in that situation could certainly use a good ass-kicking.

When I took a CCW course in Ohio, they told me you can’t use deadly force to protect property, but you can use necessary force. Inside of your house is of course different. But if someone is breaking into your car, and no one is inside of it, you can’t open your front door and shoot them. The instructor was an active police officer, and he said “necessary force” is subjective, and be prepared to have to criminally defend yourself in that type of scenario. I know each state is different, but I believe the use of lethal force is only justified if you believe there is a threat of great bodily harm or death to yourself or others. I believe the same applies to police, except they don’t have a duty to retreat, if they can safely do so. Again, going to vary state-to-state I’m sure.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
    Sorry, Marines do NOT retreat.

Of course not. But how many of us would just sit inside and watch? You gonna sit there at eat your pop corn while someone flips your $50k vehicle? Also, what happens when you go out?? They gonna be “oh, I’m sorry” and leave?? Just throwing that out there. But absolutely not. I’m not running out with guns blazin lol

law will basically be the same no matter what. You will always have to prove your life was in danger. Like mentioned above, you can’t just go shoot someone because they are hitting/flipping your vehicle.

I really was being facetious with my comment above. Lol. I didn’t think I would be taken seriously.

Yeah, I looked up Michigan self defense laws and they look the same. I just know that some states are more strict than others. I obviously wouldn't expect any state to allow deadly force to prevent vandalism. Cars can be replaced.

like I said above, I was 100% joking. I might rack an empty shot gun, but I sure as hell wouldn’t shoot it at anyone or even have it loaded. I’ll call law enforcement to deal with it

    Lol!

I get what you're saying, though. It would be difficult to just sit there and watch it. It's just unfortunate that, out of the entire mob, not enough people had the sense to stop what was happening.

Insurance or not, that vehicle's owner has a pain in the ass to deal with now. And, I doubt any of those drunk dipshits are about to volunteer to cover the deductible.

I hope they get recognized on social media and get in some trouble.

I agree with what folks are saying, good luck in court defending yourself. But, in the current vehicle market it may not be so replaceable.

People in large crowds tend to act as one. When things go mob, it will always default to a state dumber than the dumbest individual. Any individual in that crowd, unfortunately will have very little control to change it.

Sitting back and watching from a safe distance is about all you could reasonably do. In my mind, mobs are like bad weather. You can get pissed, yell, and shake your fist…. Weather doesnt care, it will mow you down regardless.

My insurance only covers rental car for 30days at $50 which is the best option I see from the selection. I guess I have to pay out of pocket if I were to use a rental vehicle. Which sounds like scary these days with all the delays.. :(

If insurance write off the vehicle then it would be no car for several months I guess.. :(:(:(

    True!

I was in Madison in winter of 99/2000 when the Badgers won a big game putting them in the final 4.

My brother and I had no clue WTF was going on. We were there for a Chili Peppers concert.

It got pretty rowdy on State Street, but I don't recall seeing anyone breaking stuff. Maybe because it was just the final 4? Or, maybe Madison is just more classy than Lansing, MI. :notsure:
