I was between the Thinkware Q800Pro and the Blackview dr900s, those were the two best to pick from. I cant remember why specifically I opted for the Thinkware over the blackvue but I did. Nowadays the Blackvue is dated and the competition has left it behind. Thinkware u1000 is the probably the best on the market right now. That said I’m about to buy another Q800Pro for the wife’s highlander

Did you hard wire it or are you using a battery?

    both, kinda.

I built a pretty elaborate dual battery setup, everything that is not factory on the vehicle is ran through and auxiliary fuse/relay panel and powered by the second battery second battery which is protected by its own low voltage disconnect. The only place I have anything connected into the stock electronics anywhere is a ignition on signal for the dash cam and the DCDC charger.

Anyone knows of an article or youtube video on installing the camera on windshield and hard wiring it on 5thgen?

There’s no 1 correct way and it depends on what you’re installing easiest way is fuse taps, one for key on power, one for constant power, and ground. Just make sure the cable isn’t routed somewhere that can interfere with curtain or knee airbag deployment.

I also purchased the Garmin 46 and looking to install it. The dongar connection is nice and neat, except it does not activate the parking mode feature. To access Parking Mode you need the hardwire cable from Garmin.

I tried the garmin 56 first and was not impressed with the quality. The Viafo V119 V3 is much better and cheaper.

I installed the blackvue 900x dual system in my 2021 TRD ORP, hardwired. It works well. Fairly easy install once you figure out what you need to do.

If you want super simple, and cheap, YET quality video, the Apeman C450 was a great choice for me. Buy a MicroSD card, put it in, hide some wires and use a 12v source and bam you are in business. It doesn't record sound, only records whatever way your camera is facing (no back and front). It just continuously records over itself in 3 or 5 minute increments up to the capacity of the memory card. I finally had a close call and i wanted to check the camera out and was very surprised at how good the quality was for like a $50-60 camera.

I've used Viafo a119 ($89.90) on 2 4runners and they are very good. I've tried BlackVue DR590X ($189.99 ) and not that impressed for more than twice the price I paid for it.

Last weekend I installed the newer 4K Viafo a129 pro duo (Front and Rear dash cam) on a Telluride & Palisade.

I have the Viofo 129 pro duo in my 5g. Works great, only real issue is I need to 3D print a mount for the rear camera so I can screw it in instead of using 2 sided tape. Couldn't be happier with it.

I wish there is someone selling that mount on Amazon or some safe payment platform. I love to have a rear cam.

I've been researching dash cams for far too long. Talk about analysis paralysis. There's so many choices out there now.

I found some 3D printing instructions from either Reddit or one of the forums a while back that I saved, I just need to get a 3D printer and get it done. Seemed like the best option so I could shoot a small screw into the mount and use the factory push plug thing to keep it in. I'll put up a few pictures when I get it done.

Had a Thinkware in my Taco and nothing but problems. Overheating, not recording. PITA.

Have a Viofo A129 Dual and love it. Putting one in the wifes car soon.

Ordered from here and had it within a couple days:
