How often do u guys get hit by rocks etc on your windshield? I’ve heard 4runners get hit quite a bit. I just bought a new 2022 TRD ORP and dealer offers a $500 plan that fixes or replace windshield for 7 years. I just learned insurance goes up when you make a glass claim even if it is just to fix a rock chip. We made 2 claims and our insurance jumped quite a bit on another car.

I am not sure for 4R but I found a local guy I just pay cash to to fix small rock chips. They love the cash as less bs to deal with. He comes to my house or I met in some parking lots where he uses his drill and sealant and $35 cash I am gone.

    $500.00? not me.....but that's just me.

EDIT: Worth asking the dealer if the $500.00 includes Safety Sense recalibration with windshield replacement, or would that be an additional dealer fee?

As to Comp coverage and insurance going up due to windshield claim/s - depends upon your insurer.

My insurance is with Amica. When I called to get coverage for mine we discussed the coverage I had on my F-150. I let the lady recommend whatever she saw fit. All of the coverage was good except she told me I should consider glass coverage since the windshield is very expensive to replace. She explained that this is separate and apart from the auto policy so a claim wouldn’t have a negative effect. I asked how much and it was ridiculously inexpensive. If I recall, less than 50 or 60 bucks a year. So inexpensive that I added the same coverage on my wife’s CRV on the spot. BTW, we’ve had all of our insurance, home, life, vehicles, rentals, everything, with Amica for 37 years. That should tell you something about their service.

The windshield on my 2018 has no cracks but lots of little dings and chips and heading into the setting sun you can see all the haziness as if it’s been sandblasted. I had my 2000 4Runner for 18 years and the windshield was in better shape when I sold it.

For $2/month, my agent had me drop my Comp to $0 from 250 so if anything happened to my windshield it wouldn't cost me anything. It's worth it since we have replaced the windshield 8x in 5yrs on my Yukon and 2x on my FX35 at our expense.
I use State Farm, but just switched last year and hadn't had to replace one since we switched. My last ins didn't have this opt.

Me personally would take the dealer plan for $500 for fixes or replace windshield for 7 years as long as the replacement is original Toyota glass and all the cost is covered including TSS calibration. Because it would cost alot for 2020+ windshield and even though the deductible for windshield is cheap, but insurance will catchup with the increase of premium. Again, this is just my opinion.

Older 4Runner windshields were pretty cheap. One time I did a filler thing and did not increase the insurance premium. When I had to replace the windshield the total cost for dirt cheap so I paid from my pocket without claiming insurance.
