I'm a bit curious - is the SiriusXM device in these cars a separate unit, or is it on a chip within the main head unit? Years ago these were always separate units, but I'm guessing this isn't the case anymore, but wondering if anyone knows about these newer head units.

Bonus question: Does anyone have a FULL pinout of all the connections on the back of these head units? I mean the 2021, non-JBL, w/ nav ones. Bottom line - trying to find a way to hack in a direct aux port if at all possible.

Satellite antenna plugs directly into the unit so I’d say SXM is built in.

Regarding AUX, I’m working on a little something like that since I need an analog input to take certain measurements. I haven’t tested it yet but I have a AUX to Bluetooth transmitter to try out. I haven’t tried to pair it with my radio so IDK if it works yet.

Yes, I've gotten one of those bluetooth transmitters working - they actually sound pretty good. The only issue I have with using one of those is that you have to do the connection song and dance Every Single Time you get in the car if you want to use it. Plugging in the phone for carplay is a lot easier.

Yeah if it works that’s what I need. I need an AUX input to measure impulse response and take FFT measurements when I’m tuning. It wouldn’t be often so connecting for that won’t be annoying.

I’d never use Bluetooth for audio playback.

I wish I could provide actual brand names of ones that work. I have a ipod specific dongle thing that works. I also have one of those more generic dongle BT transmitter things to test, but my daughter has my 4runner - when i get a chance to test it I'll let you know which one it is in a few days.

I used to have a tesla, which has famously bad audio input sources, and at one point I decided to try a LOT of bluetooth transmitter options, and ended up with about 10 of them. A few of them worked, but quite a few didn't work at all (ended up not using any of them). I'm not sure what happened to that box of test units - I moved since then, I may have tossed them.
