2021 4Runner Venture 4X4

Just traded a 2018 Titan XD diesel w/65,000 miles for a 2021 4Runner Venture edition 4X4. Got $34,500 for the Titan and paid $46380 for the 4Runner.

• Titan was awesome but worried about engine/tranny after 70,000 (had 100,000 warranty) but no techs at dealers
• Great power, great ride, 23 mpg on highway, could tow 13,000
• Diesels are a pain w/regens and Def fluid refills
• Seats were the best in Titan

• 4Runner rides better
• 4Runner visibility better
• 4Runner better lokking
• 4Runner less power, less efficient, more agile

Had a Tundra before the Titan and now I'm BACK

Toyota is the most reliable and I'm glad the 4Runner is made in Japan as most other SUV/Trucks are or will be made in Mexico soon. Too s0on to jump into the new Tundra with a Turbo 6

4Runner has engine/tranny which is quality/time tested

any hints/suggestions will be appreciated!!!

Congratulations! I have the same trim package, I love it!

 

If your roof basket has locks, make sure you have the keys. Same for wheel locks.

The cheap console organizer on Amazon is a good buy. There's one for the glovebox as well, I don't have that yet.

Also on Amazon there are sets of rubber mats that go throughout the interior for things like the cup holders , storage cubbies, etc.

IMHO, stock tires look weak. Get some nice all terrain tires

The Toyota voice recognition for the GPS sucks. I use Android auto and it is worlds better. I expect Apple Car play to be good as well but have not tried it.

If you need more USB charging ports up front, get an adapter and plug it into the 12v power point. The power point turns off with the vehicle and it won't drain the battery if you leave the USB adapter in there.

 

Welcome, out of curiosity what was your complaint/concern with diesel regens?

 

When city/suburban driving is predominant, the diesel needs to regen about every 250 miles. The fuel economy drops 50% and it takes about 30 minutes of non-stop driving(above 30mph). Seems to occur when you you are preoccupied with more important tasks. Refilling DEF fluid can and usually is messy as most DEF comes in 2.5 gallon(not light) jugs with a cheap spout.

I'm happy to be out of that arena, glad to be back in a super reliable, good looking, comfortable chariot.!!!

 

Yikes. That is a long regen. I daily a VW TDI, regens are much shorter and every 400 miles or so. No DEF in mine but I try to never shut the engine down if it is regenerating to not cook the turbo.

Bought my 21 Venture last November pre chip shortage and saved $$. Ironically my friend has a XD Titan sitting 2 hrs away for several weeks because dealer can’t figure out what’s wrong with it!
