Does anyone else’s 4Runner make this noise? I swear I never noticed it before but in the last few weeks I have been it religiously does it when hitting about 4 miles an hour.

Where does the noise seem to be originating from?

Down towards the pedal area. Possible steering wheel area.

What year truck. How many miles on the brakes/rotors? Might try jacking it up and doing a spin test.

Edit: back in the day the first place to look would have been the speedo cable. lol

21 sr5 premium. It happens every time after you start the vehicle shift from Park and then get up to 4 miles an hour doesn’t matter if you’re going in reverse or forward if you shipped it in the park and then start up again it won’t happen as long as you haven’t shut the vehicle off

Sounds like it could be a brake piston. It gets shuttled into place the first time you roll, hence no noise the next time. Just spitballing.

Oh I’m not worried. It just bugs the shit out of me not knowing what it is. I’ll definitely ask at the dealer for the first oil change.

I hear it too on my truck. I'd say it's a relay for something that engages, speed dependent.

I think what you're referring to is that click when you first put it in drive. There's been many similar posts.

Sounds like it comes from the dash right above the steering column.

The click I hear sounds like a relay latching but it doesn't happen when drive is selected. It happens as the OP noted, around 4mph or so. You can can hear many relays in this car so I'm sure it's normal, just curious as to what it could be that is clearly speed dependent.

Mine does it and so do my other vehicles.
It’s the ABS system doing a self test. It should only happen when you first start vehicle and start to move first time.

This makes sense. I does it as soon as the vehicle starts to move in either forward or reverse.
