It would be nice to know what it took to get the Suburbans and Expeditions past 200k vs. the 4runners!

I'd bet 100% of those suburbans have one DTRL light out.

Trust me, its all of them.

My guess is that the larger SUV's, all makes, were at the top of the list because they were utilized more for family long haul highway trips. This makes perfect sense.

If I was planning a long road trip, my family would be much happier in the Sequoia than the 4Runner.

There's a strong cult of Landcruiser owners - heck FJ40s are still sought after in many regions.
When I sold my nicely modded 1986 FJ60 a couple of years ago it had over 200,000 miles and there were plenty of buyers interested in it. It was virtually rust free, so that was a plus.

The fact that Toyota is discontinuing the Landcruiser will likely keep that vehicle at the top of the list for a while yet.

Landcruiser will be sold to other than north american market. The lexus badged unit will be the only option for the north american market. Rumor goes sequoia to be built in san antonio, tx tacoma to move to baja california, mx. What are the chances the gen 4runner will be built in texas next to sequoia and tundra. in addition there will be a grand highlander coming out of indiana.

Only in the US market. We will still have the Lexus version.

I guess Toyota decided that people would be more willing to spend $90K (or whatever they cost now) on a Lexus than a Toyota.

Ha! We definitely have that issue! Resolved by cutting the parking brake cable approximately two years ago. Only a problem when one of my boys take their john boat to a boat ramp by themselves and they cannot set the parking brake.

Check out Suboverland. These early 2000 Suburbans apparently make good overland vehicles at a very reasonable price. If we were closer to the west (in MD) and didn't have the east coast road salt rust on it, I would have gone that route! Drive her till she dies! Great hunting and fishing vehicle as a beater!

I’m not going to lie, I do have a thing for Suburbans, Yukons etc. You really can’t beat the interior acreage. And the reality is, they are not throw away vehicles. It doesn’t surprise me where they are on the list.

Toyotas have the African Warlord, “mounted AAA machine gun” vibe. Big GM SUVs have the south american armored, “sliding port for submachine gun” vibe. They both have street cred lol (Also a secret service vibe).

So, what is it about that parking brake cable that breaks in such a consistent manner?

When i think TOYOTA i think reliability. I think about Kaizen a Japanese term meaning "change for the better" or "continuous improvement."
It is a Japanese business philosophy regarding the processes that continuously improve operations and involve all employees.
Kaizen sees improvement in productivity as a gradual and methodical process. :hattip:

Great way of putting it "interior acreage"! A ton of interior space after removing the 3rd row of seats and folding down the 2nd row. Really underrated as a hunting vehicle to keep all of your gear secure and dry. Huge sleeping area. One year we had a 24" snow and our 2002 Suburban plowed right thru and my 2006 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited really struggled (too light I think). Not ideal for a tight winding trail, but a good solid 4WD that is an incredibly comfortable vehicle.

In our case, I think the brake cable gave way due to rust. A lot of rock salt and liquid salt that is really corrosive applied on the Maryland roads in the winter time.

Not as impressive as 1,000,000 miles but here's a 4Runner that did the metric version (621,371 miles).

I have a '96 Silverado with 272,xxx miles. Looks good, burns no oil and no body rust, despite living in Wis. I drove a municipal snowplow for 22 years, so she has seen plenty of salt. We did not skimp on the salt outlay. That pick-up was washed and under carriage power washed after every snow storm.. (We could use the indoor garage wash bay for our own vehicles) Has a five speed, too.

Oil was changed every 2,500 miles unless we were on an extended vacation. Then it got changed whenever we got home. Longest between changes was about 5,200 miles. Regular maintenance is the key. Oil, coolant, front and rear diff fluid, tranny fluid, (gearbox in my case) transfer case fluid. Don't forget to grease the zerts. And use decent gas. I used cheapo gas for years and the injectors needed replacing at 160,000 mi.

It hasn't seen daylight since I bought the 4R six mos. ago. She won't ever see salt again. Not as long as I have it.

1st time she's seen daylight since I got my 4R in March 2021. Had to get firewood to the garage for winter. Wheel well pic shows lack of rust. That is the factory paint.

That is a fantastic looking truck! That's one of my favorite gen GM truck, I love that clean styling. Those 400's still look sharp even today. Or ESPECIALLY today, compared to the pickup monstrosities that are coming out lately. (lookin' at you, Tundra!)

Long bed, stick shift, regular cab...that's gotta be fairly rare these days, too.

I LOVE Suburbans Suboverland has a '91 Squarebody Sub for sale right now and I want it to bad! I just can't justify the expense, or the need (I wouldn't want to daily it). Plus, bringing it out to New England would just ruin it.

I'm going to an overland event in a few weeks, and I kind of want to sleep in the 4R and not deal with a tent. However, if the GF and dog come with me, there's prob not going to be room. Once again I find myself thinking, I should have gotten a Burb.

Yeah, I really wish our 2002 Z71 Suburban did not have the rust issues or I gladly would have invested in it. I paid $54,000 for my 2021 LR Pro minus the $14,000 trade-in of a paid off 2016 Subaru Crosstrek with 92,000 miles. It would have been fun to have put $5,000 - $10,000 into the Suburban and kept the Crosstrek. One of the primary reasons for wanting a 4R was that aside from checking all of the boxes for what I needed, was that I could sleep in it. The Suburban would be so much more accommodating and ultimately cheaper, plus having the paid off Crosstrek as a high MPG daily driver. But, living in MD it is just unreasonable to think one will be able venture out west consistently. A lot of great beautiful places out west! My son is going to school in Montana and I annually take a out west ski trip. Well, I guess we should be grateful for having plenty of H2O and no forest fires in the east!
