Is this oil vapor that escapes from crankcase breather tube? Anybody know how the factory breather method is insufficient?

I would be shocked if that is a picture of a port injected engine running as designed. The constant wash of fuel vapor with detergents would keep that pretty clean I would think. So I would be unhappy if you are proven wrong lol

so a 5 is your vote for having one - cool with that

Is there a particular catch can out there you use and like/not like? Seems to be alot of options.
Best i can tell mainly want to ensure get a filter and easy to dump. One other website for 5th gen saying only about 1.8oz over 3,200 miles so doesn't need to be a big can.

For those that know - is there possibly any downside to installing one? For example is there lubrication to something that should be getting that 'blow by' oil and such that will be starved and lead to a longer term issue by installing a catch can? I don't at all think there is but being wrong on things is something i do well at :)

There's an install for 5th gen outlined on trail4runner.com - i'd post the link but i'm not certain of rules on forum for doing that.

Here it is. It’s a seperate can and it’s actually “graphite pearl”

Yes. Whether or not you actually need one depends on how much oil comes through the hose. On my car, the amount of oil I capture between oil changes is maybe an oz or two but I can also be higher in the RPM range than the 4R and the higher RPMs mean there's more oil vapor potentially coming through the breather.

Does it really help the average driver? Can't say for sure. But the idea is solid.

there's 0 downfall to installing one correctly (definitely massive issues if its installed incorrectly) however there may also be no real benefit to installing one unless you were racing your truck and leaving it in high rpm while also experiencing some high g's. I have one installed on my golf r, on older models, the PCV valve was shown to be pretty faulty and the OCC would catch quite a bit, on my version, the PCV got an upgrade and my catch can has never caught so much as a drop of nasty fluid, so the new stock pcv is doing its job quite well. Now folks who buy a OCC that fully replaces the stock PCV, They catch a ton of the nasty things that the stock PCV would flow back into the crank, but since the OCC kit replacing the PCV is literally just adding a plate, it no longer flows things back into the crank and it all goes into the OCC. And those guys are emptying it out monthly and have to worry about the occ fluids freezing in the winter.

My buddy has a tint/ wrap shop, he used ceramic for windows. The lights were some kind of special tail/headlight film. I guess similar to Lamin-X but way better quality

Finished phase 1 of my drawers project.
Started phase 2. I’m thinking over again what exactly I want to do with the other side right there. I think I do know what, but how, I don’t think I have enough materials left for what I do want.

Didn't do anything to it, but founds miles and miles of trails in northern Maine this week. They seemed to go on forever.

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
I went bear hunting in Allagash Maine years ago. It it truly wild up there with miles and miles of logging roads and trails. I think you could spend many years exploring and never see it all. Beautiful country.

First time tow for the 2021. Audi q5 engine quit in the middle of the road. Seem to have good battery and not out of gas. Just pulled the vehicle to safety and came home. Now feeling lazy to wrap the strap and put the stuff I took out from the recovery box..:D20210917_204434.jpg

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
Visited Michigan's Upper Peninsula and found some sand to play in. Miles and miles of snowmobile trails.

We were hoping to see a Moose or Bear. No luck on either. Short boring 4 minute video of some of this sandy road following the coast of Lake Superior.

I was up around that way a couple of years ago. Loved it. This time we were around Willimantic in Piscataquis County. Same thing, trails and logging roads stretching out for miles.

They charge $100/hour. I’m estimating 5-8 hours of labor inclusive of an upgraded sway bar bushing and a special switch for the light bar being run directly into dash (left of steering column where extra slots exist).

I watched videos and see that it can be done at home but my wife insisted I pay for it specifically because of cutting the bumper. After toying around a bit with my dremel on other plastics and seeing how quick they can melt I was sold on the idea. Didn’t want to pay the cost but a bit of piece of mind goes a long way…

nstalled my lower link and shock mount skids. May use a big clamp to secure the front of link skid. Don’t know that I wanna drill the frame. Also got my 3rd seat delete plate and the platform sprayed with some cheap bed liner
