Hey everyone, I got my eBay snorkel installed (ARB/Dobinsons Clone) a few days ago and wanted to share because when I was looking for info on them I could not find any. The quality is superb, quality hardware, worm clamps, and the plastic itself is very thick and rigid.

I did not get a picture of it before it was installed but it comes packaged and in an identical box as the ARB/Dobinsons comes in without the name in videos I have seen. It does come with a template that is accurate as far as the big hole goes but is off as far as the holes go for drilling for the studs to pass through. I went ahead and cut the big hole first, installed the threaded studs on the snorkel and marked the back of them with nail polish and pressed against the fender. I also ended up making the screw holes about the size of a dime in order to allow adjustment/easier fitting to the fender. I did not drill the A-pillar, I just used double sided tape attached to the bracket. I have seen some debate online on why the need for drilling the A-pillar even exists but I am here to tell you this snorkel is not going anywhere double-sided tape/screwed or not. Below are some pictures of the snorkel installed!

Looks great! I have the ARB on the way. I know the Dobinsons says it’s not compatible with the TRD intake but the ARB is (one reason I went ARB).

Is the eBay snorkel compatible? Just curious.

I am not sure, this one just attaches to the side of the airbox where it draws air from the fender well.

Just checking in, any feedback on the snorkel after a few months of use! Water crossings? Rain issues?

    thanks!

Still working flawlessly, no water crossings deep enough to need it to report on. With the intake head it comes with I never got water in my airbox despite it being wide open, I have a snorkel upgrade head now though. No regrets on it, gets a ton of questions from random people curious to what it is.

Do 5th gens have rear differential vents that need to be elevated like 3rd gens have?

Lots of kids put snorkels on the 3rd gens, run through deep water and then wonder why they need rear axle seals and a rebuilt differential.

man oh man I'm soooo on the fence about doing this. I do a lot of desert driving and these are excellent for getting fresh air. However I know a couple peeps that have hit it on a tight trail and had it fuck up the quarter panel/A pillar.

    Nice Rig!

I was going to go with your Ebay model but chickened out and got the Dobinsons. Quite frankly, I think the Ebay one is dangerously close to the dobinsons. Hindsight, I'm happy with the dobby, but should have saved the cash and go the Ebay one.

Really looks great, thanks for the instructional pics.

Forgive me for asking, but how is the wind noise from the snorkel on civilized roads?

I used double sided tape to secure mine. There is no vibration or road noise from mine that I can discern.

The 5th gen has low mounted E locker and rear diff breathers at the rear axle to raise and if you are really going to wade deep you should also raise the front diff and transmission breathers which are located in the engine compartment below the fuse box towards the engine.

Ready to buy the Dobby and came across this thread - Any idea why the eBay snorkel does not work for all Gen 5's? I need one for my 2016!

Agreed, but their title says "SNORKELS KIT FIT FOR TOYOTA 4RUNNER 2017 2018 2019 NEW 16"

Not sure what the "NEW 16" means, but combine that with "No returns" and I'm leaning towards the Dobby. I also better do that diff breather mod that I've been putting off. I heard others say it isn't necessary, but I don't see how it could hurt doing it, either.

@e_alvarez91 ,,, sorry about this thread hijacking, but do you like the silver/red TRD skid plate? I want one, but heard its a royal pita to change the oil once you move to this skid plate?

    Many thanks!

What you have heard is true, my biggest gripe with it. But you can convert the mounting method to studs w/ nuts vs using the bolts it uses by default which would make it easier. I want to do that but have not yet.

No thread with a picture is complete without this question. Usually followed by what offset/bumper/skid plate/NOS sticker question.

Forgot to post an update myself. Bought this exact eBay snorkel over a year ago now and it’s been great. Install was nice and simple, fitment is spot on and I’ve now put almost 20k miles on my 2010 Trail Edition with this snorkel. Thanks again for posting your review on this, saved a good amount of money by not going with the name brand ones and got the same result.
