Another "what do you think of this one?" Thread 97 4 cylinder

So I didn't even know they made 4 runners in 4 cylinder but here's one in my town for sale. Guy rear ended someone and took out the radiator he says. Doesn't mention the condenser but I'd imagine its trash as well. I like a fixer upper and my budget would be $3500 all in for big things then little stuff and mods as I drive it. In looking at it to drive daily to work 25 miles each way and maybe go play on the weekends. This would be my first 4 runner but I've had 1st 2nd and 3rd gen tacomas.

Huge pass. Airbags alone would cost you a fortune not to mention possible frame damage. If you are serious about it then get it inspected by a body shop so they can look for hidden damage. Vehicle should be classified with a salvaged title not clear but he probably didn't have comprehensive insurance on it.

 

Yea your not kidding. Just one air bag is $1500 looks like with just a quick search. I may go look just to look later.

 

So lets say I was going to tackle it and there's no frame damage. I would build a front bumper so that's no biggie. Gonna need a radiator, probably a condenser and some misc parts behind the grille. I can do all of that. So the main question is, with the airbags deploying, what all will be needed. Obviously replacement bags. Sensors as well? And replacing the passenger side. Will that require taking the dash out? IF, big if, I decided to do it ill get way more in depth on how to replace them with out exploding them upon connection. But for now, what all should I be looking at replacing as far as the bags are concerned. I'm about to ask him about the title. If he didn't claim it on insurance and the title is still clean what should I do there. Ill pay cash for the truck so that's not a problem. I don't mind a salvage title but I know it can make insurance a bitch. any proble!s other than that?
