Hoping there is someone whom knows about a known issue and fix-
My 2017 4Runner Limited continues to drop/disconnect phone calls on my iPhone X while connected through Bluetooth car system (roughly 2-5 minutes into the calls). BUT, the call does NOT drop on the actual phone.
I brought my car into a local Toyota dealership for them to “fix” it. I didn’t even leave the parking lot of the dealership and a call disconnected from the hands free Bluetooth car system. Dealership said they could continue to diagnose, but would keep charging me for each thing they TRY in order to fix, which is not an option I am willing to take.

There is a known issue with this and it’s not just on 4runners. Tacomas and Tundras were affected I know. The devices seem to be any Apple iPhone X series phone and entune. There is an issue with the Bluetooth signature, I know of multiple people, myself included that dealt with this and the solution every time has been to switch to a newer iPhone or switch to Android. I took advantage of the great trade in value that I was given on my old phone and upgraded to a iPhone 12. No issues anymore.

Man, I’m glad to see this post. My ‘19 does this as well. Took it in to be “updated” and still didn’t work. Service manager told me it’s a known issue with iPhone users. Took it back again, and finally on the 3rd visit, they completely replaced the system. Still has the same issue. Repeating the same process and expecting a different result, I’m pretty sure is the definition of crazy.
My question to Toyota dealership, “do you know of a recall coming to address the issue?” All they said was, “nope, we will let you know if we hear of one.”
Does anyone know what it would take for customers to petition a recall? I would say this is the only complaint I’ve had with this 4Runner.
I am mostly frustrated because it’s the only vehicle that I’ve had that has this nice, hands free technology and it never works.
I would also like to know if the newer system in the ‘20 and later 4R works better with IOS technology.
