Im looking to mount my chase light under the rear spoiler but not get in the way of the windshield wiper. Does anyone have suggestions or recommendations?
See this picture for someone else who did it, fabricating his own mounts and squeezing it between the body and the spoiler. He says it was a pain but can't get any close ups or better idea of how it was done.

The question is, "who is chasing me?"
Any ideas on how to get this done, Tonto?

I go off-road a decent amount so Id be scared of all the movement of it slowly cracking away at the spoiler. You think it'll give enough support to it without cracking the fiberglass overtime?

The spoiler already moves around on its own. I wouldn't add more weight to it.

Is the roof rack a mounting option?

    What's a chase light?

Why not just stick on one of those LED light strips under the spoiler.

Its currently mounted there. I like the lower option, its just neater.

Unless you remove it, add a metal support bar to the inside of the spoiler and mount on that. Never had it off so don’t know if that’s an option

Spoiler is weak, do not mount to it. As mentioned earlier back of roof rack is a great option.

You can check out this link for a guy showing how to remove it. Its completely enclosed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWjS3jui_9s&t=125s

I thought about some sort of anchor. Because my light bar has a track for the mounting screws, I thought about using 4 of them to balance the load across the entire length... My fear is that it will put too much pressure on the fiberglass when I tighten them down and that it will cause stress cracks when bouncing around off road.

I could try what the other guy did, which is fabricate my own mount from the spoiler mounting points to the light bar but that would be a long mount and may not be supportive enough either.

This may be a dead end but want to vet it out before give up.

Why not mount it inside the rear cargo area?

I’d be open to that idea as well. Might even be better. Can you advise how to mount it inside the cabin? The headliner isn’t strong enough to hold it so what would it mount to?

I don't have a 5th gen, I'd have to look at one to come up with an idea. There's a picture of a 5th gen on another 4runner forum that has one mounted in the cargo area that's what made me suggest it. They also make headliner brackets that a lot of cop cars use to mount lights inside the vehicle.

I'm a long time volunteer with our local PD and on rare occasions I have to perform traffic control, so I installed a light bar inside which easily mounted to existing trim holes. It took way more time to run the electrical from front to back (didn't want to utilize existing power plug) than it did to mount the light bar. The beauty of the 4runner is the rear power window - when needed I simply lower the window to half mast and conduct business.

Are those screws using the holes for the white plastic “Christmas trees” that are holding the headliner in place?

I removed two existing trim plugs (white) and replaced them with two slightly oversized screws that snugged up the light bar goodntight…

Amazing. Thanks for this... going to scope out this job tomorrow. If those trim tabs are in tight, it should hold just fine... especially because there are 4 of them.

That’s pretty slick. Although one thing to mention for chase light applications…you wouldnt want to roll down your back window on dusty roads. In about 10 seconds flat, you’ll get choked out of your own vehicle, due to the back windows tendency to suck air into the cabin.

Good point on the dusty roads but, to date, have not done any off-highway traffic control yet…

Oh ya! I learned that the hard way! I dont think Id need to open the rear window to get the lights to display. Think of police lights, they're interior mounted.

Sorry but I can’t answer that. Like a lot of old geezers I have a large selection of misc sheet metal screws so it was fairly easy to find a couple that were slightly over sized for the existing holes. Just remove one of the trim plugs and experiment with screws that are a little bigger that the plug you removed.
