4th Gen 4Runner Now Included in Frame Rust Lawsuit

Only found two websites that mention this, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

Owners of certain Toyota vehicles from 2003-2009 may want to take a look at their undercarriage. Last year Toyota settled a $3.4 billion lawsuit involving premature frame rust on its Tacomas, Sequoias, and Tundras. They did not admit fault, but they did issue a recall. Now the 4Runner joins the lawsuit, at the helm of lead plaintiff Gary Weinreich, according to Environmental Litigation Group, P.C.

"In addition to the undercarriage, the rust had spread to the splash shields, exhaust, and shocks. Weinreich felt the brunt of this damage in 2018 when his front steering control arm broke off while he was driving. This caused him to drive off the road."

 

Knucklehead was told he had severe issues and then drove it for 7 more years before he complains. Good luck with that.

 

Lawyers will get paid big bucks, Toyota will send you a check for 200 dollars.

Good reminder I need to do a solid inspection of the undercarriage for potential rust problems. I've seen little spots here and there over the years, but haven't seen anything significant yet.

 

My 2008 has some decent rust. It would be nice if the recall went through for the 4runners as well. There is/was a recall on the pearl white 4runners. I just had my whole truck repainted by Toyota. It looks brand new now.

 

Congrats. I wish that applied to silver. My paint looks awful. In fact, it might be cheaper to order a new hood than repaint the existing one due to labor of sanding it down the bare metal and prepping and all that. Pillars and roof look just as bad, as well as that flat ledge along the window edges that catches all kinds of water.

 

It does suck that it doesn't apply to more paint colors. My brother's gold 4th gen is terrible with clear coat pealing especially on the hood.

 

R32 what model year is your 4R?

 

Why are they limiting it to the fourth generation? I’ve seen several fifth generation models in Hawaii and New York and other parts of New England with the radiator mount and the front crossmembers rusted out.

I'm not sure if its just for the 4th gen, but if I remember correctly the Toyota body shop guy told me that it was for all Pearl White & Super White.

 

I think he's talking about the rust problem recall, not the paint problem recall.

 

My wife had a 2011 RAV4 that had the paint peeling issue, (no rust). Toyota painted it all over. I mean they even removed the doors and windshield and did the jams etc. Looked great. Oddly enough we just sold that car yesterday. She now drives an RX350.
