You mean 2.4L right.........not a 2.0L.

I bet all the people who are against the I4 turbo NX motor would not hesitate one bit if it was an I4 turbo diesel motor. Am I wrong?

 

I couldn't find specs for the 2.4, but I'm guessing it has a similar torque band. When I look at the NX it shows a 2.0.

And, 100% agreed about the diesel. Most of the members here would probably be all for it.

 

After driving around in my buddy's Ranger I'm open to a turbo 4.

Another friend managed to score a '95 80 series with a turbo diesel, and it's pretty sweet.

Big displacement N/A motors surely have their charm. I just don't see them being around for long.

 

For me, diesel isn't as appealing as it used to be due new emissions standards. But, the older ones are nice. They're still king for heavy hauling, but I am fine with a gas powered 4Runner.

 

DEF sucks.

 

Diesels use to be good for their simplicity, but the modern ones have been ruined by emission regulations to the point they are more complex, expensive, and unreliable than gasoline engines. Its been this way for some time, any advantage they had (apart from fuel economy) has been lost because of how strangled they are with regulations. I'd only buy an old one, not a new one.

 

Actually, even the modern diesels are very reliable. The issue is guys that modify them. Then that million mile motor turns into a ticking time bomb.

Here's some info on the 2.8L I4 Turbo Diesel going in the Hilux, Prado, and Fortuner. Not going in the 6th gen, but interesting to compare specs. More torque but less horsepower.

Meh…maybe I just get a car to commute and do a Lexus v8 swap in the runner and keep it as my forever project\overland rig….

 

Displacement on demand engines have issues, that's something i hope Toyota doesn't get into. I agree with you on the complexity of the newer stuff as well, Pita to work on.

 

There aren't any spark plugs in a diesel engine.

 

Modified RAM trucks are popular in my area. We call them "Real Man" trucks.

They floor it at every stoplight belching out thick black smoke.

 

Same here in my area, diesel trucks have become the new hotrods it seems. It's pretty impressive though the power these guys are getting out of these things while still getting good mpg.

 

Just talked to my local dealership and was told the turbo 4cyl was just a rumor and nothing they believe to be true. What is true is that they aren’t selling the land cruiser here anymore. It’s off the website and you cannot get them.

 

If they use this turbo 2.4L NX motor in 4Runner would it require Premium gas? I believe in NX it requires Premium gas

I see same turbo 2.4L be used in new 2023 Highlander but can’t find anywhere what type gas it takes, regular or Premium
