RCI front skid coverage

Looking at the RCI front skid again, and am wondering - for those of you who have one, does it take the place of both of these?:



I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but thought I would ask. I've been hijacking someone else's thread looking for an answer, so I figured I better just see if anyone has an answer, thanks.

 

I have the RCI on mine, and there are separate plates to cover what is in this picture. I had the TRD Pro skid up front, so I just added the TRD Integration plate, the Transmission Skid, and the Transfer Case Skid. If you don't have the TRD plate, then to replace these two, you need the engine plate, and the transmission plate.

Sort of... I'm not really looking for the whole skid set. I am wondering what oem skids need to be removed to install the front RCI skid. It is considerably longer than the front skid shown above, and has an access hole in the rear for the oil drain plug, which is in the second skid shown above...

I guess I need to ask RCI.

 

For anyone who's interested - the word from RCI is that their engine skid plate replaces both of the pieces in the photo above.

 

Yep, I can confirm. The front skid does take the place of both of those stock skids.

 

Are you talking about this plastic piece? I didn't remove it. And its a good thing I didn't remove it as I help me to mount the front camera.

 

Huh...Yep, that's the piece. I like that placement for a front camera. I hadn't even considered leaving that piece attached. I'll amend my post!

 

Is that plastic piece attached at the front of the RCI skid, or just on the bumper side up front?

 

I used 2 zip ties for a cleaner look.

 

Good idea. I think I'll look into placing an order for one of these skids. It looks so much cleaner and I'm sure is a huge improvement over the stock engine skid.

I have noticed most of all these aftermarket skid plates end at the radiator. Are there any companys out there that have them full length like the OEM TRD pro front plate that goes to the bumper?

 

+1 for RCI front skid replacing the two separate stock pieces. Also, FYI for everyone, RCI sells the piece that the above poster attached their camera to. Maybe a touch more peace of mind when that is metal instead of plastic, thats why I got mine. Plus its what covers your radiator and fan and hoses right there from debris bouncing up.

Thank you guys!! I am now really liking the RCI brand.

 

The OEM TRD skid goes a bit more forward than the aftermarket skids, but it does not go all the way to the bumper. You would still need a filler of some kind with the TRD skid.

 

Any input on bare aluminum vs. black powdercoat on the RCI engine skid?

 

There is not much of a gap with TRD skid. Not sure there's a filler plate for TRD skids.

 

Bare aluminum looks matching with TRD skid but I see scratches. Black powdercoat looks better when you have RCI front skid. Also add lower control arm skid to hide the LCA bolts if you go with RCI front skid.

 

Been looking at this also. Mainly for the oil filter access without removing the skid plate.
Just ordered.

 

They are definitely really nice skids. I have almost the full set of them armoring the underside of my vehicle.

 

You're right. I forgot how those go forward like that...my mistake.

 

Nice. Which metal and finish did you decide on?

 

Someone posted at one time that they trimmed the OEM plastic filler piece and mounted it with the TRD skid, similar to what you did, just without the rear zip ties. It was held on by the front bolts only, being as how it was smaller now that it was trimmed.

 

Any photos of your skid setup?

 

Went with black power coated steel. Also ordered the lil bumper blank to fill in the gap.

To the folks that have these already- Is it fairly easy to pressure wash and clean these? Both top side and bottom? That's my big concern is the skid plate holding sand?

 

TRD skid pic is from my TRD Pro. I did not change anything. I just added RCI skids behind the TRD Pro skid.

Black RCI skids are from my TRD ORP. I did not do any trimming. Nothing more done from my install video. Just removed stock skids and install RCI full skids with provided new bolts. Added 2 zip ties at the bottom for the plastic cover. Top bolts kept as is.

I don't have any photos of my Transmission & T-Case skids at the moment, but, I could probably grab some shots of those if you'd like.

 

So yes, the act of cleaning is easy, pressure wash and wipe clean to your hearts content. But don't forget, more specifically to those of us who got good ol steel... the front skid alone is about 52lbs. Transmission skid as about 40. Transfer case/cross member are about 60 combined. Gas tank is about 55lb.

These arent insignificant numbers when noodling about on your back under the car with limited mobility, unless you're a badass with your own lift.

Thank you. Shazam that's a good bit of weight to push around underneath the truck. Most offroad is spent at the beach and vehicle is usually pressure washed before leaving the island and again during wash at home.
