Got the timing gear pulled off the cam I pulled off of junkyard 4runner today. Hopefully it's in good enough shape to be traded in as a core for some performance cams :drevil:

We got a set of 245/16 Bigfoot AT's for our stock 94 4Runner.

Needed them before the weather up here in N AZ gets wet.

I'm a 15 yr Jeep owner before getting the 4Runner last year, so have a lot to learn so wanting to read as much as I can.

Discovered smoke coming out of the engine bay after a short drive to the grocery store. I believe it is the valve covers leaking some oil. Hope nothing else is wrong.

I pulled my transmission out, replaced the input shaft seal, and got it almost all out back together. Gonna finnish it up tomorrow, hopefully that leak is fixed!

Lets see for last half of 2018 I installed a Doug Thorley header and worked out how to put in a Cressida AFM with a $38 eBay (not smog legal) cold air intake. Was rocketing up the interstate 5 highway with my two sons and my oldest's girl friend for a wedding in Yreka, CA and was just about 100 miles (AAA significant) away from home at Castaic Lake, CA. Then the passenger side head gasket let go on the front cylinder as water was spewing from the EGR bung on the Thorley while I has getting it cooled down. Right bummer was this and never made it to the wedding. Six months later, as of late am compiling bits and pieces for a rebuild on the motor and in the interim have engineered a Zirgo 16 diameter electric fan into a custom made shroud that is fixed onto an aluminum radiator ($117 eBay). Deral switch and relay kit will manage the control of the fan. The best part of this effort is that I was able to drill and tap a #6-32 hole into a brass elbow for the thermal switch to be mounted on. This elbow is to direct the petcock drain valve downwards once the skid plate is off and out of the way! It is also on the battery side of the engine compartment and I have been able to consolidate the fans power leads and this switch wiring up behind the windshield washer tank. It is a very clean looking installation. Oh yeah I put a pair of 100 Watt bulb equipped Hella head lamps into the grill with the relay kit powering them. Definitely the business when your in the dark. I can't wait to get this 4Runner back on and off the pavement!

So the plan for this weekend is to start a multi stage repair/cleanup. Below are the things I will be doing this weekend and will post progress pictures as each thing gets accomplished.
-Pull off the Intake manifold to change a valve out that has a broken stem (this will prob not get completed this weekend as i still have to wait for the new valve to come in the mail)

-Pull the front apart (3rd time) to change out the Timing belt, Tensioner pully and water pully. (Timing kit should be delivered tomorrow)

-Pull the battery and the entire power steering setup out to clean all the grease and crud out then sand and paint the areas that are starting to rust to prevent further rusting (this will be for sure done this weekend if nothing else works out due to waiting on parts to be delivered)
