Question: Buying OEM parts at the dealer

I’ve found many dealerships, including my local dealer, listing the OEM rock rails above online for about $200 each. (These are available as a $750 option installed.).

But when I try to order them there’s a large shipping charge and no option for local pickup at the dealer.

Just wondering if I’m misunderstanding, or if it’s typical to have to pay for the shipping to the dealer at pickup.

I don’t imagine these are a regular stock item in the parts department, so they probably have to be ordered in.

Anybody ever picked these up at a dealership for about $200?

Not sure why your dealership don't have pickup option. I see its available for local pickup at 2 dealerships near me or ship at reasonable price.

Interesting. The shipping prices in my area (Colorado) are $177 to $213. Not sure why the local pickup option isn’t showing up on mine.

    thanks for checking

Not sure if every Toyota is like this but when I went to go buy some parts at Longo Toyota (El Monte, CA) they were selling it at full price. I pulled up their parts website and the item was way cheaper and I asked the guy for a price match and he was cool with it. So after that experience, I will always look online first at a Toyota Dealer Site then ask to see if they will give you it at that price. Worse case scenario, walk out and order online it'll save you the money.

Here's the link too if you want to compare prices:

I just ordered OEM rock rails from a Toyota dealership in WA for about $205 each. Use "FREESHIP" as a promotion code and it'll be about $211. They arrived at my house in Portland, OR in three days.

None of my local dealers do online order or pick up, closest one is 45 minutes away.

Try going in and talking to the parts manager and ask them if they are willing to price match. I’ve done that before with my local dealer and it’s worked.

I'm curious why you'd bother going through the hassle rather than just ordering the stuff online and getting it in 3 days via UPS?

I helped a friend install a set of the Toyota ones on his 2019, they came out looking good easy to install BUT! make sure you get the install Kits for them! You need 2 of them - (PT228-89190-HW) and You can get everything from Bam WholeSaleparts dot com for $195.11 each side and the shipping has always been very competitive.

FWIW my rock rails came with mounting hardware included (bought 2 months ago). There was a thread on the other forum as well, and people confirmed they received with hardware too, but that thread is deleted now unfortunately. Don't waste money if you don't need to.

The pair I ordered last week also came with mounting bolts included in each box.

My dealer will usually price match the online price and I don’t have to pay for shipping. Depending on the parts it can save you big money.

If you buy from https://parts.toyota.com there's a 99% chance they'll have free shipping if you spend at least $75.
