3" Lift issue

    Icon Stage 1 Lift with Adjustable front coilovers and tubular UCA
    Rear 3" overland springs
    17x9 -38 scs wheels, 33" tires

    With the 3" Icon overland springs, the rear end sits higher than the front. The Icon coilovers claim to be adjustable up to 3.5" but i can't get them to sit equal to the rear. I know the rear tends to always sit higher.

    I just installed these rear springs and i'd like them for the constant load i carry in the rear. However when my rear is empty, i get this awful looking rake. Has anyone ran a small spacer ontop of coilovers? If thats not suggested, any other coilover options that can give me more lift?

    I believe the stock rake is about 2". I know the PRO has less rake, but that's because it's already lifted slightly in the front. Once you switch to an aftermarket suspension, you're starting in the same place as an off-road or SR5.

    You'll need shorter springs in the rear if you want a level look. I'd recommend a heavier spring so you don't wind up nose-high when loaded or towing. For comparison, I'm lifted 2.4" in front and 1.5" in the rear and still have some rake.

    I also wouldn't recommend going higher in the front, especially if you haven't installed a differential drop. Even with a diff-drop you might have some rough CV angles if you go to 4" of lift or more.

    It's not advised to put a spacer on your coilover. Also, lifting much more than 3" up front will put you in a zone where proper alignment gets difficult, CV angles get too aggressive, and suspension travel starts getting weird as you max out the down travel.

    The easiest thing to do is to switch out the rear coils. Buy some that lift the rear 2" instead of 3 and you'll probably be where you want, rake wise.

    Thanks for the information! For some reason, i don't know why i didn't consider coils that were stiffer. The icon springs included in their stage 1 kit just didn't cut it for me. Once i load down with camp gear or anything else, the sag was just unbearable. I figured the 3" overland springs would do the trick but maybe they were too long. I did max the front out to what Icon suggests. It feels much stiffer and isn't that great.

    You could get custom built coilovers for the front. The overland series icon springs (52800) for the rear are for 4runners carrying a full rear metal bumper. I believe those are rated for 400+lbs constant load. So if you have no where near that it’ll probably ride rough and it’ll sit a lot higher in the rear.
    I’m using the icon 52700 spring for about 2” lift in the rear and they’re rated for 200lbs of constant load.
    I pretty much have your same setup but 3” in the front and 2” in the rear and the rear springs still give me slight rake with about 50lbs in the rear.

    The icon rear springs that i had only have 158506 part number on them and i can't find much information on them.

    I just went onto Icons website and both their stage 1 and stage 2 kits show the spring part number 52700 listed. Perhaps thats what i had? Damn. Not sure where to go from here.

    I just found this photo from the other thread i could find. Apparently, this is the difference between 2” icon 158506 vs 52700. Im curious now as to why i have the 158506 springs when i ordered the kits which say they come with 52700. Too late now but i guess the 52700 would be the way to go. Aside from camping gear, i have a full bag of tools, spare fluids/water, pro eagle jack and etc. The 158506 didn't cut it and the overland 3" are too much without a bumper.

    If I remember correctly, icon sells them as the 2” 52700. But when you get them, it’s labeled 158506 on the spring.

    the 3” are the 52800

    this is my pic. The one on the left is the stock trd pro spring. One on the right is spring labeled as 158506 which is really 52700.

    Well damn. I guess i should be looking for a 2" spring that is rated for like 200-350 constant weight. This would ride a bit stiff unloaded but would cover me when i've got my off road gear and etc.

    So do you have the 52700 or 52800? The 52700 are the 158506 and the 52800 are the overland 3” lift springs that are rated for a ton of constant weight in the rear.

    These in the photo are the 52800. Which i now realize should not be on the vehicle. I had the 158506, which i guess are 52700. Unfortunately, those sagged too much when i filled the cargo area + passengers.

    Any 2" spring recommendations with maybe a slightly more load rating? Perhaps 250-300lbs addition. OME889's show 2.5-3" lift with a "medium" duty. I'm not sure what constitutes medium duty. Their 898's are 440 constant lb rating which is probably too high.

    I picked up some OME C59-675V a while back I plan to install soon. They’re 3” lift springs, rated for a light-medium load and I imagine will sag with weight but may end up being level and not nose high when weighed down.

    So this is the 52700 2” springs and loaded with 70lbs? Can you measure hub to fender.

    This photo is the 52800's with approx 70 lbs in the cargo area. It rides really stiff and sits higher now than in the front.

    unfortunately, i don't have a photo of the 52700's. All i know is when i loaded the rear with gear, guns and ammo, water and food, plus 2-3 in the back seat, the tires would rub and/or i would have no useable clearance from my spare tire when off road.

    i installed the 52800's as shown in the picture hoping the 3" difference over the 2" difference would help me. I didn't however consider the weight being mandatory 400 constant in order to ride decent.

    so now, i am on the hunt for 2" springs, that can handle lets say 100lbs constant (or more if needed) but don't require 600-800lbs constant. I dont see myself running a rear bumper or swing out anytime soon.

    icon doesn't have a load rating for their 52700's that i can find. I suppose i can call or email.

    Have you thought about adding air bags ? I’ve read about others having similar issue with 2” vs 3” while under load.

    other option is to lift the front more or load the rear more

    The 52700’s are rated for 200lbs of constant weight. Try a softer 3” lift spring like the OME I mentioned above.

    The 52700's being rated at 200lbs constant rate sounds good. However once i stacked the truck full, it went all downhill from there lol.

    I do want emphasize my appreciation for you guys taking the time to help me out. It's been a bit frustrating trying to figure this out lol.


    Lifting the front more would be nice. However after 3.5" of front lift; it takes much much more work to get more proper lift out of the front from what im reading. I'm not balling to do so haha.

    I can consider a softer 3" spring. I will then still need to complete the front end diff drop at this point if i leave it this way (Icon coilovers at their max recommended adjustment).

    i figured at this point, a stiffer 2" spring plus lowering the front back down a bit might be my safer bet.

    looks very nice to me the way it is, hence, I can see you're predicament. "i figured at this point, a stiffer 2" spring plus lowering the front back down a bit might be my safer bet." It sure will. Good luck.

    How’s the ride quality of the 2 inch Icon 52700 with an empty truck? I’m considering a 3 front 2 rear with that spring in the rear, but probably won’t be adding a bunch of weight ever.

    Rides great, can be on the stiffer side but I prefer it compared to OEM. I usually have about 50-100lbs of recovery gear at all times in the rear.

    Id go with a 2” spring since you dont constantly load and sounds like you prefer the level look when ever your rig is empty. Combine that with airlift 60804 and be able to maintain ride height and loaded.
