Bronco Adventure, Part 2

I was supposed to be rolling in a Bronco right now. Told I was the first of the first in my area blah blah blah. Short story long, I drove past a local Toyota dealership and saw a base Runner sitting there looking pretty basic under a few inches of snow. On a whim, I pulled off, and I asked the ol’salesman if I could test drive it. Being that it was covid and all, he let me take the keys and wished me well.

“Just come back with it,” he said. He looked bored and disinterested, but I was happy because I didn’t feel like talking with him anyway.

I fell in love with that truck. Almost didn’t bring it back I loved it so much. But ultimately, I did because it was a base model, and I wanted to drive it up and down mountains, and it didn’t have all the off-road goods I wanted.

Short story long, I bought a Runner, never converted the Bronco order, and started driving up and down mountains. That ol’Ford dealer called me up a few times, and he was mighty upset when I didn’t convert the Bronc order. Said I was a “Toyota fanboy” when I told him I bought a Runner.

“Well, Mr. Ford-man, I was drivin’ a Volvo. I kept breaking it, though, because it couldn’t go up mountains and such. Had a Subaru before that and a Honda before the suby. I never drove a Toy-yo-tah before this here ol’truck, and I ain’t a fan of much of nothin’ except bull ridin’ and Coors Light.”

He got tired of me, I figure, and hung up.

I got that Runner, put some proper tires on it, and in half a year drove 10,000 miles. Drove it up and down mountains; through the mud and snow; camped in it; saw country I only dreamed of; road tripped with my daughter and made memories that we’ll never forget.

Mr. Ford-man called me again the other day. “Ready to convert that order? Let’s get you into a modern off-roader!”

I was in the Runner busting down a rutted-out fire road when he called. I glanced in the rearview at the dog, his big ol’head hanging out the back window. My eleven-year-old daughter looked over at me and whispered, “No way. You can’t get rid of this truck. I wanna drive it a million miles.”

I thanked Mr. Ford-man, pulled it into 4-wheel drive, and told him to cancel my order.

 

Now this is a love story i can get behind, i think i may have cried a little.

LOL !! Great story. Congrats on your new rig. In a sense, the 4R is a rig that can be all things to all people.
