I plan on using my ORP for dispersed USFS camping with my wife. After much thought, I'd really prefer to avoid getting a rooftop tent given possible gas mileage concerns, and of course the expense. After watching a lot of videos on the ORP, it looks like the back is actually perfectly flat - does anyone know if it needs a platform to achieve full flatness, or can a mattress be put in the back and it's ready to go? If it does need a platform/build, does anyone have any recommendations? Goose Gear makes one, but again, not sure it's truly needed. Thanks!

I cut a piece of 1/2" plywood to fit the rear cargo area with (3) 2x4s on the bottom of it and stapled carpet to it. This took care of the hump between the cargo area when the seats are folded.

Went to home Depot and bought a piece of foam, cut to shape for the entire back after folding down seat, taking out seat bottoms. Also added a thin memory foam topper on the top.

Tinted windows to 5% for privacy and added some cheapie window nets so we can roll down windows and have airflow with no bugs. Also have rago panels and shelf to hold camping supplies.

All in all, it works very well. Have taken it on multiple road trips where we just stayed on blm land or forests.

This is the latest version of my setup. If you keep the spare in the stock location, you'd have full width plus decent storage underneath.

I keep most of my recovery gear and some other tools in it. The front section is only elevated 2 inches or so. I found it's just enough space to slide a few Plano tackle containers underneath.

The top and bottom are 1/4" birch plywood. The rest is 3/4" plywood.

My advise: get some plywood, glue, screws, etc. and see what you come up with. :)

The cargo area is only perfectly flat if you have the slide out cargo tray. If not, the cargo area is going to be about 3" lower than the surface of the folded down rear seats.

I would start by folding the seats down and checking it out for yourself. If you're using an air mattress, it might not even bother you.

I finally decided to get rid of the cut up foam carpet pads Ive been using for solo camping and copied this platform. My platform came out a little bit higher that the seat level, but I still call it flat.

The space between the panels is only 1 1/2 inches, so it might be useless for slide-outs, but I will probably be able to put a slide out table/platform.

Looks good for single person runs the Real Question is what are you using to hold the Fishing Rods up out of the way?

It's a Rod Saver rack from Bass Pro Shops that I customized. I used aluminum flat stock to keep it tight to the ceiling.

This^^^ is my setup as well( I do have to remove the middle seat bottoms to fit(6'4"), which is super easy) except I just use a exped megamat duo air mattress which is like sleeping on a cloud, during the day I let the air out and half fold it w/ the sleeping bag then put what I need inside back in to travel.

This, but remove the trophy seats and build storage in their place. That's my plan anyway.
