Tire Recommendations

Time for new shoes and looking for recommendations. No lift, and want all terrain, but something that will not make a lot of road noise as it’s my everyday driver. Want to try a 275/70R 17 for a little beefier look. Any thoughts and advice welcome!

I was in the market for 275/70R17 tires. Almost all were Load E. I've used 275/70R 17 BFG KO2 Load E in the past and my wife hated it on long road trips due to uncomfortable / firm ride.

There were few option with Load C like Falken Wildpeaks but that thing is heavier than a Load E tire. (Wildpeak 275 Load C are 58lbs and my stock Nitto 265s are 41lbs. That is 17lbs extra per tire.)

Then I looked at Nokian Rottiva A/T Load C. Not heavy at Wildpeaks but side wall strength for offroad seems questionable.

Then I looked at Back country A/T Load C. Not heavy at Wildpeaks & side wall seem to be decent too. But no 3 peak mountain snow flake rating. (I live in CO and I need 3PMSF rating to run in winter)

I could not find any good tire in size 275/70R17.

 

Michelin LTX A/T 2's.

That's the ticket. They last almost forever.

 

Do you have Michelin LTX A/T 2 in the size OP wants?

 

Pretty much all the folks I ride with in the desert SW love the Nitto Ridge Grapplers (price and performance)...although I run 285. Done plenty of trails & rock crawling in AZ and UT - not one complaint.

I think I would rather have something like the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S in stock size.

 

I also like my grapplers, they are a good tire that work well for daily driver use and still let me go wheeling when I get the chance. My only big complaints are I wish they had a few more plys on the sidewalls and they get a little slippery in the mud, but then again they are an AT tire and not MT.

 

Looks like some like Nitto Terra Grapplers. I got them from my 2021 TRD Pro for sale in Colorado (Local pickup only)..

 

I would recommend Toyo AT3 as those were great tires.

 

Nitto Ridge Grapplers. For aggressive tires that these are they pretty quiet compared to Terra Grapplers I had before. Ridge grapplers have better dry and wet traction according to the company specs. There is always BFG TKO but it is an old tire.

 

Spare does not match. Why call that a set?

 

Good question to ask from Toyota why is that.

 

No, I have them on my Sequoia 18" rims, and it's the only tire that lasted past 50k. That heavy tank eats tires.

Had them on my 97' Tacoma and got nearly 100k out of a set. They dry rotted before tread wore out.

I believe they are a 60k tire, but a lot depends on the vehicle weight.

 

I like Bf Goodrich KO2's rated C - Good for all weather and all terrain, limited noise on the freeway or City.

 

That limits your choices quite a bit. Like @kmeeg mentioned, most (maybe all) of the options in that size are load range C, D, or E.

Do you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow?

 

The first thing I did off the lot was go get tires. Tetras a garbage. Got Cooper Discoverer pros. No more noise than stock but way more off highway performance. And look so much better.

 

Looks good. Did you sell the stock Terra's if so where and for how much? Looking to do the same
