Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
I have a Forester and the CVT really isn't bad and as long as you don't beat the hell out of them the horror stories of them blowing up are BS. If his mileage is anything even close to my Forester he'll get around 23 pure city driving and 33 highway. Try getting anywhere close to that in our 4Runners, they just ain't built for it.

Sadly I haven't been able to really drive it yet to test out the rubbing situation. I did remove the mud flaps and also did the body mount chop so I would be surprised if it does. I guess I won't know for sure until I get it on the trail. So far I can say that in reverse with full lock there are no issues.

Shocking! I went from a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek to a 2021 LR Pro 4R. Loving the 4R, but honestly I was perfectly fine with the Crosstrek. That is a cool looking Outback! I would have bought the Outback in 2016, but we already had a 2002 Suburban and a 2013 Honda Pilot in the family fleet, so the smaller Crosstrek fit the bill. Enjoy!

You are very correct! It is just a vehicle. I have had my LR Pro for two months now and am really pleased with it, but if I had to get rid of it tomorrow it would not be that big of a deal for me.

I agree, -12's gives a good stance in my opinion.

Just FWIW. if anyone here listens to Scotty Kilmer, he says using anything higher than what is recommended for your vehicle, is a waste of money. I run 87.

Installed a set of Diode Dynamics SS3 fogs on my '21 TRDP. Sure wish I had my sequential turn signal side mirrors that were on my '18 TRDOR. Installation was easy. I had a heck of a time getting that cover off the back of the passenger side fog light.

Installed the early Trail roof rack on my '21 ORP and picked up the Grumman canoe from my brother. Been in the family since 1982 and with a little spit polish it'll be good as new.

Didn't take a photo, but installed OEM crossbars today. Fairly straight-forward installation.

Thanks for the info. The reason I asked about the gas mileage is that my wife has a 2004 Forester XT turbo and it gets about the same as my 4R, 18-21 MPG. Looks like the new ones are an improvement.

The last two times I looked at buying a new Subaru (early 2000s and early 2010s) i was horrified at the gas mileage. Not to mention they were incredibly doggish, and every model I drove had brake pedals that were spongy basically went to the floor.

if the new ones are getting 33 highway, that is incredible. Granola aside, I’ve always liked and wanted a Subaru, but always came off as half baked to me for the above reasons. Maybe it’s finally coming together for them. The Outback wagon has always been my secret crush.

You have got to be kidding me??

Is this a bucket list thing? How many manufacturer's you can own and change forum names to follow "Dallas"? Your Pup has got to be confused (along with a couple of folks on the Wrangler and Runner forums).

On a selfish personal note, did you keep any upgrades off the Pro or trade it as it sat?

We looked at the Outback Wilderness, my wife was the one that said, "you're thinking of replacing a Rubicon with an Outback?" We bought the 4Runner.

If the Outback meets your needs, you will be very happy with it. Our family is half Subaru, half Toyota, only my mother and I are the outliers with Jeeps and Audis. :p

Yeah I probably wouldn't have sold the 4R if the market wasn't like it is. Realistically all I need is the Outback, but I loved the 4R and all its storage capabilities. There are a lot of things inside the Outback that I already don't like, but I will get used to them. I never really used the 4R much off road except twice a year on trips and never anything crazy. The cost of ownership with this Outback will be a lot less than the 4R. Insurance is less. Gas is less. Payment is less. Plus I cut $8K of debt. I had rolled $8K into the 4R from my Rubicon and that made my loan $60K with a high payment. I'm saving almost $350-400/month. I'm positive I will be in another 4R in the future.

This was 100% for cost savings. If there was a 25mpg 4 Runner then I would buy that.

New tires. Here were factors in selecting these Coopers in 255/75/17s:

    • More stability when driving on miles of gravel/dirt roads
    • Not too loud (for me) at street and hwy speeds, coming from Michelin LTX M/S
    • Taller tires for aesthetic reasons, that won’t require a lift and no noticeable loss in acceleration from stop
    • Reliable in snowy conditions
I’ve only driven these home from DT but I already like the road manners so far. Hopefully they don’t rub when in full lock or when the suspension flexes. I do have 30 days to change my mind but I don’t want to deal with more research anymore so hopefully I just end up liking these tires.

I know I know. Its definitely not a bucket list thing. And my dog doesnt car what I drive as long as he is going with me. Its his 6th vehicle and he is not even 6 yet. It was 100% a financial reason. Some things are chaining with my business so I was lucky that things were so crazy.

Yes. I have available '21 LED headlights and performance fogs that are plug n play with the earlier 5th Gen's. I have Diode Dynamic Pro fogs. I have Canavasback liner for the rear sliding tray and back of seats. I have a Lockerdown console safe. I have OEM Rock Rails. I have an Alpha Foxtrot Molle panels and shelf.

I see you're in Missouri. I had Dustin's Auto Body in Theodosia perform a BMC on my 4Runner in April. He charged me $210 to do it and welded on sheet metal from his stock. Then finished it all in bedliner.

You might check with you're local auto body shop.

I wouldn't replace my 4Runner with that, but that does look good. We test drove a pair of 2019 Touring models (Outback and Forester). Seats felt hard to me. Went with a 2020 Rav4 TRD OR instead.

The front passenger seat in the Rav4 sucks. Too tall and also hard.
I'm really contemplating selling / dumping the Rav4 to Carvana - now would be a good time to get out of it.

Subaru's are kind of fun to watch off road. Even with taller tires, they just don't have enough ground clearance and really scrape their undersides on rocky terrain. We've had 3 on a couple different trail rides. The wheel lift on small holes is phenomenal.

The Wilderness has 9.5" of ground clearance. Thats more than a Tacoma. That doesn't mean its more capable. The problem is with articulation which the Wilderness has more than other Outback's. The seats in the Wilderness are softer than the 4R. They feel nice to me. In reality I spend less than .1% of the time on rocks in daily life. The 4R was always more than I needed. Outback looks pretty good in person. Makes the 4R feel like a dump truck and I thought it rode pretty nice. It will get me to far away places in more comfort, cheaper and quieter. If I didn't have so much equity in the 4R I wouldn't have traded it. I wouldn't say I regret the trade, but I think I just miss the 4R's simplicity.

One thing the Subaru doesn't do is shut off when you open the door after remote start.

You've had some great rides, I'll give you that. Still have a crush on that 2 dr. Willys.

Didn't think 21's were plug and play with earlier versions, did you modify them or are they not OEM?

Good luck on the Scooby forums. Wife had 2 Outbacks pre CVT, still her favorite rides.

No. The guy rewires the '21's after people want Alpharex or Moto's installed. Then sells them back to interested 4R owners.

installed some Diode Dynamics fogs and ditch lights on caliraised brackets yesterday... install was fairly easy on both, and I love the results.
