Hi Eddie from 619 or 858, I have no experience with them or even heard of.

Are there certain requirements you’re looking for?

Not to persuade you, but a lot of rack manufactures seem to be taking a modular approach meaning, you can buy the crossbars directly for your OEM roof rails. These cross bars can also be added to a roof rack much like the one you have pictured.

It might also be good to point out that the aftermarket for vehicle parts has become extremely saturated recently. I image this is increasing competition and quality of products (hopefully).

I personally have some LFD crossbars and might buy the roof rails later to make a complete full length rack.
Side note: their customer service is excellent although strictly through email.

Hope you find what you’re looking for, good luck and cheers!

Any links to these bars to add to OEM roof rails, I hadn’t thought about this before.

Uptop has been great so far!

My brothers and I have bought three Truss racks and two roof racks from them. We’ll purchase during there sales events, so they’ll thrown in a mount or give a discount of some sorts. We have no complaints about the racks themselves. Better details of their instruction would be nice. But there was no issues contacting them with question.

I will be purchasing the same roof rack when funds are right...

Gifted my brother some of their Grab Handles. They’re pricy but look dope and well worth it. I’m hoping he gifts some back to me soon lol.

@Mohoman thank you for your feedback! This is definitely an alternative I will consider. I guess I just liked the way the full length roof racks look; theres no real reason why I need one haha. I would love to go with a Gobi, but the boss gave me a spending limit and I don’t want to wait 6 months to get it . I looked into the Prinsu roof rack too, but came across a thread where members were not happy with it. Someone had referenced UpTop Overland and that’s how I came across their products.

    Respectfully,
    Eddie from 619

@getwiser thanks for your feedback, man! I’ve talked to a few other guys on IG who are running the bravo and haven’t heard anything negative either! May I ask how long you had to wait for yours and how long ago did you purchase? Their website is stating a 6-8 week time frame.

I saw an Uptop rack yesterday in person for the first time. I stopped at Toyota to pick up some parts for my Highlander and there was a 4R with it parked next to me when I came out. I looked it over briefly and wasn’t a fan. It just looks out of place, the weird inverted wind deflector, the light back sat sonfan back inside the cutout it looked like it would cutoff some of the light and narrow the beam pattern significantly. It looked like the quality was was alright, but I wasn’t a fan of the design.

We ordered (Truss racks) July 7th and it arrived Oct. 23rd. The Tundra Truss was one of their first Exoskeleton racks that fit over a softopper so I knew it would take some time.

My brother ordered his bravo rack for a Tacoma and it arrived in a couple months.

In regards to the UpTOP Bravo for a 5th Gen 4Runner. Does anyone know if the front bracket to roof sits on top of the weather strip or do you have to cut a piece out so the rubberized portion can sit in the channel?

    Resurrecting an old thread...

I'm totally thinking of going with heavy duty crossbars for the factory rails instead of a full rack like an ARB, frontrunner etc.

I mainly want to stand on my roof to take photos. Has anyone used the LFD or other crossbars with the factory rails and tried standing (or I guess, laying in a RTT) on them?

I've been looking into crossbars too (why sell a SUV with non working rack???), those LFD ones look interesting, like I could just get 2 now and build up as needed, vs buying the plastic ended factory ones... Hope someone chimes in with experience with them.

I bought a pair of the powdercoated stainless steel ruggedized bars from LFD. The front one was built with integrated wind guard (all steel), but the bottom of it touched the roof. They told me to use the rubber weather stripping, but that just ends up putting more pressure on the roof, and traps dust so that your paint will eventually wear off anyway. I returned them and they gave me a refund.

As I researched other types of roof racks, it seems like a lot of them touch the roof in the same way, which kinda is a sucky design if you ask me.

Static the Bravo can take 700lbs. I. Thinking of using some old synthetic ice tiles to make a platform to cover the whole top and sit up there

Got the Bravo rack, love it. See my build thread here under My First Toy. I’ve even tested out their warranty department and their spot on with a response and follow through! Talk to Drew, he’s great to work with.

Great to hear! I should have my bravo installed by the 3rd week of August. Really looking forward to getting it on there. I already have the mounting HW for the hi lift and the maxtrax. Do you know if I need special hw to mount a storage box? This is my first roof rack and the hw they sent is unfamiliar to me.

Not sure about a storage box but I'm guessing as long as it fits the dimensions between the rails where it can be fastened either with ratchet straps and eye bolts or hard mounted with the track nuts. I don't have a box mounted to mine so I can't give more info on it. Either way, if you're building it you can always create your own mounting options. That's what I've done with the Maxtrax mounts, propane mounts, water tank, etc.

It sits on the weather strip. Make sure you get it tight against the weather strip though and the new FWD feet are adjustable which makes it great for getting that exact placement. My first Bravo rack's FWD feet vibrated in the channel when I had a RTT placed on the rear of the rack; Drew sent me additional spacers and that seemed to help. I received new side rails and hardware with a new style of mounting feet which seem to be much sturdier. I still may take some 3m to the bottom of the front feet just to add that but of security.

Thanks. It turns out they sell them on their website but I had to search google to find the link because they don't show up under parts or accessories on their website. Just ordered a few to mount that storage box.

Awesome news! Add the link to this thread if you don't mind. It'll help anyone less looking for a way to mount storage boxes to their rack.

Thanks for the feedback, gentlemen! However, I decided to go with Gobi. I was not really in a rush so I'm okay with their long wait time. I should have it by August or September. Glad it worked out for you though!
    Cheers,

When did you order the Gobi? Aug or Sept seems really quick if you just ordered it (unless that is august of 2022). Did you order directly from them or a supplier? Thanks

Use plenty of sealant rated for outdoor applications. I also noticed they use a different type of thread locker; it's more like a gel. So if you prefer the ol' standard blue thread locker, might want to pick you up some.

If you plan on putting an RTT on there, I'd also consider either Prinsu's 1" or UpTop's 2" tent spacers to give you a bit of clearance to actually get to the mounting bolts for the tent. Since the Bravo rack is such a low profile rack, there's little room for chubby hands/fingers to tighten it all down. I went with Prinsu's 1" RTT mounts and had to slightly modify (Dremel) the mounting hardware to fit into the UpTop roof rail tracks by grinding down a portion of their carriage bolts to slide into the track, but worked like a champ and now I have just enough space.

If you don't go the spacer route, you may need to attach the cross bars onto the tent while it's on the ground and then adjust once on the truck. In either case, a set of 2x4's that will cross the entire roof rack works like a champ to be able to move the RTT around to get it's final position on the rack.

I LIKE IT!! Did not want to go through the expense of a full blown rack - they look great but too much coin for this old guy. These crossbars are just what I've been looking for - thanks for posting!

Just FYI from the old guy who's "been there - done that" - when placing just about anything on your rack rails consider adding a piece of simple perforated rubber shelf lining (such as https://www.amazon.com/Non-Slip-Non...ated+rubber+shelf+mats&qid=1628291094&sr=8-36) between the item and the rack rail - this will greatly reduce the possibility of the item vibrating loose. You don't need to use a lot to where its unsightly - just enough to keep your stuff secure.

Thanks for the insights! I have a shop installing it because I was concerned about getting the water proofing correct and I don't know any getting 3 more people to help get it up onto the roof. Thinking I should provide a better sealant per your suggestion.

I'm not going the RTT route. I had one on my Taco before a red light runner took it's life. It was nice and convenient until I started going to Utah. The wind there caused me to bail out of it in the middle of the night and pack it down so it wouldn't get damaged. Now I sleep in the back of the T4R. Lol
