I offered my Toyota dealership 35k for a 2021 SR5 with an MSRP of 39800...what do you think the odds are they accept?

Close to zero chance in this market, but a lot depends on how popular 4runners are in your area. Location makes a huge difference.

Snow balls chance in Death Valley, in July. What is their posted sales price? MSRP, more? Beware of the games in the finance office. That is where the money is made.

Zero. That's less than invoice AND holdback. Unless you buy 50+ Toyotas from them a year as a commercial buyer and they're willing to sell it to you at a loss, they will print your offer and use it as a funny dart board.

2 years ago 35k was basically the MSRP for a SR5. Times have changed I guess.

Just my 2 cents, I always get pre-approval at my credit union before I even walk in to the dealership.

That makes the car buying experience much much easier and more importantly, it eliminates the games they play, hiding the actual sale price.

I don't do trade in's either that's another area where they can play the shell trick game.

Welcome from Wisconsin! I would love to see your offer approved, and you drive off into the sunset with a shiny new SR5. The market for vehicles is soo screwed-up right now I doubt that will happen, with the shortage of new vehicles, not just from Toyota but most manufacturers. And the dealership "games" which they all like to play. But the other side of the coin; if you throw enough shi.... stuff against a wall, some eventually sticks! Good luck with that deal and enjoy the forum.

Where I live you have to pay MSRP plus $2K for that vehicle.

Mid March of this year, I shelled out $36,300 (before tax, title, license) for a 2018 SR5, with 17,300 miles on the odo. If the OP gets a new one for $35k, that will be the deal of the year. Hell, the sticker price on the new one seems reasonable.

More info is needed, like is there a trade in? Because depending on the trade in, the might be able to make it work, if you don’t mind getting about 100 bucks for recently new vehicle as a trade in.

Buy 2 at that price if they accept- that would be a steal.

No chance in ATX. Prices are non negotiable. They just go to next man up. Used are going for more than new here. Crazy market.

I have a friend that I helped recently purchase a.....

    .......wait for it.......

2001 Toyota Echo, in really minty condition. Book value was around $2,500 for 118k miles. Seller (very small private dealer/used car lot) refused to let it go for nothing less than $4k. She still bought it, and is very happy. It replaces her 2000 Echo she *cough* destroyed through some unfortunate situations/decisions.
