Not impressed...the air filter didnt even stay inside the airbox...weak. Lol JK

Seriosly though, It is kind of hard to draw conclusions from the crash pictures. A good looking car after a crash usually doesnt tell the story of how much energy got transfered to the occupants. But a 4runner has more mass than most...it’s hard to argue against mass.

It's always good to hear that who ever in the 4Runner is safe. I believe 4Runner is not safe compared to its sister Highlander. Atleast I wasn't expecting it to be "Top safety". I could be wrong.

Seems like after 10+ years, if there were any major weak points, they’d have been ironed out.

I’ve not researched it, but how does the 4Runner fare in independent safety tests compared to other SUV’s?

New cars are built safe, even though the tech on 4runners are old, they now have a crap ton of airbags etc. Also I doubt the semi just pulled out in front of her...

You know those gigantic 40 ton vehicles, just darting around in and out of traffic like they don’t even care.

The picture is from Tik Toc and filtered through Facebook. Anyone expecting truth from either China’s psy-ops platform or Zuckerborg’s world domination tool would be disapointed

The 5th gen did really bad in the IIHS small overlap test. It was honestly almost enough to turn me off from wanting one.

I’m glad to see it seemed to do quite well in the accident above, as I’d like to retain full use of my legs if god forbid something ever happens.

Those small overlap tests are a bear. The 4runner has nothing structural besides the front suspension actually engaging with the sharp edge of that completely immovable wall. That test seems to happen on the outside of the frame rail, so its not surprising.

One possible moral of this story, is that when a crash is imminent and unavoidable, besides staying hard on the breaks, it makes sense to guide the car to the safest crash possible. One where the car is allowed to protect you as best as possible. Sometimes in a car, taking it square on the chin is safer than a hitting with less sauare footage on an immovable object.
One thing to keep in mind, is that the small overlap test is not a situation you see often on the road. I dont think it represents two cars crashing into each other with a small overlap, since that would involve impacting something that has it’s own crushzone. I bet an SUV hitting a car with small overlap results in the SUV flipping over. If lucky I could see both cars glancing off each other.

    That’s a problem with BOF.

You want more safety, get a unit body or hybrid type frame crossover.
