Okay guys and gals, I'm new to the 4runner world. Just bought a 2012 and since the wife just took it from me, I'm looking for a 3rd gen. How many miles is too many? Just looking for opinions. I have found very few on Craigslist under 150,000 and most are 200,000 or better. Just would like to get some viewpoints or suggestions. Not planning to do hardcore wheeling, just a daily driver and play a little on light trails. Thanks

I would focus on the service records, whether it be CarFax or the owner's personal records. I would rather have a 4runner with 225k miles and 30 CarFax service records over one with 150k and zero service records.

I've seen guys with older ones push over 200k easy with zero issues.

I've just hit 300k in my third Gen, like the boys say, check the carfax. I bought mine from a mechanic at 276k, because she ran squeaky clean. She still runs like a champ, two years later.

    It's a 20 year old vehicle.

Not only that, these engines are pretty stout.

If you find a 4runner with less that 150,000 miles and good condition, snag it.

If you find a 4runner with less that 100,000 miles and good condition and don't snag it, don't let us know.:smack::smack::smack:

Most of the 4runners are about 150,000 to 200,000 miles out there. So don't be alarmed at the high mileage.

I've seen these hit 300,000 and 400,000 miles EASY.

Just make sure to keep up with the maintenance. :_

My wife and I just purchased a 97 with 341k. No issues and was maintained by the owner who is a diesel mechanic. Only thing I have to do (and he had the gaskets for it) is change the valve cover gaskets because they are weeping a little bit. I wouldn't be surprized to get another 100k from the engine as it is.
