I spent the last 7 years driving around the western states in a Subaru Outback 3.6 with my kids, dog, bikes, gear, and a pop-up camper. We were really pushing the limits which became obvious last month when we went from San Jose to AZ (Colorado River) to Death Valley to Mt. Whitney and back.

I'd been thinking about a 4Runner for a couple years at least after having rented one in Baja, Mexico.

Dealers and prices are insane lately, but I persisted and picked up a new Trail on Monday. Almost landed an ORP on Sunday night but some shady dealer antics had it fall through.
Had a bit of time convincing my wife (and maybe myself) that rather than a fully-optioned gizmo wagon (our Subaru was the 3.6 Limited with everything) we were buying a simple and sturdy basic vehicle that could last us for a decade or two. Butt heat and leather seats were the big items missing, but we'll get over it.

After having agreed to a deal on the phone we arrived (left for Fremont immediately so as not to lose another one) to find another potential buyer standing there with a salesperson and the dealer plates for a test drive. Our salesperson was on the ball and got they keys and entered it as sold the second they got back. No bidding games or others nonsense. He was a rare straight-shooter.

I had the windows tinted today (we camp in the desert frequently and San Jose is also not known for its cool temps) to bring some road trip relief to our kids and dog. It looks great. Adding steps/rails myself when they arrive next week. Other than that, no plans to farkle it up.

I fabricated some low-profile crossbars and a bicycle carrier mounts for our Subaru that I'll need to find a good home for. The bars and basket the 4Runner came with are nice. Can't say I need a stylized cooler, but we'll find a use for it I'm sure.

    Nice to be here.

    Jason

Hello all, I’m new to the forum. 2018 TRDORP metallic grey. No mods just installed 285/70/17 k02 no rubbing. I don’t see many of this size with stock suspension and no trimming. Thought I’d share my experience.

How in the world is there no trimming involved? How straight are the roads you travel?

Nothing to do with how straight any road or “don’t make any turns just drive straight”. It simply rubs nowhere. This is the truth. I don’t know why but some apparently are built different.
