it says right there. Left his AC full blast and engine idling. BC had about 115F, and it's probably 120F-130 with the hot asphalt in the middle of the day, in the sun.
It should not catch fire though. Maybe something else in the car? Like a battery from a cellphone on the dashboard ? The fire seems to be in the car not under the hood.

Plus, the comment on the screen shot. Guy SAYS he went in to get something and left the AC running full blast. He's the only one who knows, right? And besides, I never leave a car running to go anywhere, even in my driveway and locked. I'm simply too fond of my property to see someone drive off with it.

Maybe he left a lit cigarette balanced on a soda can, and when he closed the door it fell into the foot well, where he had the AC set to blow floor and vents, feeding oxygen to the lit ember. Any number of possible scenarios could have resulted in that fire.

If it were heat related? Every 4Runner within 100 miles of "The Skillet" should be - toast. :amen:

I remember last summer reading that some cars that had hand alcohol based sanitizer caught fire when it was warm out. I know a legal friend for an auto company documented several cases of this. Probably not the same issue here if A/C was on

The fact its Tik Tok makes me skeptical. I've seen people make up shit just to get views. I don't think they lit a car on fire to get views, but I doubt that explanation is correct.

Back when they were considering banning Tik Tok in the U.S., they should have passed a law deporting those that use it instead.

I'm still curious what the real story is. Like someone mentioned earlier, it looks more like something in the cabin caught fire more than anything.

    All of them.
Can actually attest to this. We didn’t have a fire luckily but I had a can of aerosol compressed hand sanitizer in the back floor board (had to of fallen out while unloading) and it exploded in the back floor board from heat. This was in our Tacoma. I leave the back glass vented in the 4R now.

It gets into the 115 to 120 range in the central valley.

I’ve left my truck idling with the air conditioning on many times.

    It has never caught fire.

Atleast they had AC. I cut ten yards a day in this stuff. Big corner lots. Even trim/edge the state owned sidewalks. The work truck’s ac is broke (Ford).

Blacked out grill and rear emblem. More on the way!
Yep, I do it several times weekly. I'm a dog trainer and have to take dogs to different locations, so they stay in the car with the AC running. The max is an hour to hour and a half. I'll talk to my auto tech buddy to see what his thoughts are on any potential issues

I would think the radiator coolant temperature would be your concern. Monitor it with a ScanGauge or an OBDII phone app. If it’s being maintained at a normal temp while idling you’re good. Normal temps with 50/50 mix seem to be 195-225F.

Does the GR engine run cool like older engines from the 90s, or does it run hot like newer engines?

If we are placing bets, my money would be on them leaving their cheap vape in the direct sunlight and the lithium battery exploded.

Unless Toyota used the Chrysler engineers from the 90s to design their AC Blower Motor circuits, I'm guessing this wasn't related to leaving the AC on. I live north of Houston and 105 degree days are common. I've not seen a bunch of cars on fire when it's hot out. Nor have I ever seen a PSA telling us not to leave our vehicles on and run the AC.
